It amazes me that in these days of incredible border security a boat can get all the way down the wa coast and not be detected til it enters the harbour?????? How much money do the spend on this sh$t????? It would be just as effective to post a couple of people at the mouth of the harbour with signal fires. The current money may be better spent elsewhere aparently.
Did they remember to pack their wind/kitesurfing gear?
Should feel pretty stupid if they forgot to....

Not bad salaries and conditions but not enough for some as evident with corruption in the Customs Service.
Plus all the money being wasted on those offshore detention centres. Why on earth is all that money being wasted on Christmas Island? By any stretch of the imagination, Christmas Island is not part of Australia geographically.
I heard on the radio that the people on the boat want to go to New Zealand. Why don't they should buy some fuel for their boat, stock up on water as well as supplies and keep going?
The Chinese I think it is, have the best practice in place for Boat People.... If they spot them crossing into the boarder around them, they give 2 warnings that the boat will be fired upon.
On the third warning they shoot a nice sized round beside the boat. if they do not turn around they sink the boat, pick up the people and send them home again. no food, ** accommodation and poor service, makes the boat people think twice about going there again..
As I understand it, Christmas Island has been 'excised' from the Australian immigration zone, the mainland has not. I suspect that may be why they made the extra effort to get to the mainland...
One would think that Gina would have the courtesy to at least meet her first load of 457's in person and welcome them to Aus. That's just poor form[}:)]
todays report was that they sailed straight from srilanka and swung south under the patrol zones.
I get a sense that the smugglers are waking up to a potential new route,
and cutting out all the indonesian middlemen, thereby increasing their profitmargins
sounds like good business sense to me![]()
Not the first time in Gero for a reffo boat. Not sayin good or bad but it has happened before. Many moons ago there was another refugee boat landed in the same spot with a heap of Vietnamese on board. mid to late 70s I think. FOO LONG 11 I think it was called from my muddled memory.
2 boats in 40 years.
Awesome bit of seamanship if they came straight across. Timing was pretty good as well looks like there is a cyclone brewwing up at the moment.

The sponsor name on the boat is the company that gave the boat to help them after the tsunami, they are going to be very impressed when the boat is going to be burnt! I would'nt mind to salvage it..... probabely nice construction made of iron wood? and very seaworthy, nice shell that can be made into a big cruiser with plenty of accomodation. Where do I apply?
there ya go its official my memory has left me![]()
