My kids are both Skate board mad and have made suggestions for Xmas would each like a drop deck down hill board. Problem is that i have found they tend to be very big, heavy and honestly don't think my kids are going to get any benefit from that style of Skateboard. I think its just a fad thing really.

My son is 8 and he already has a Tony hawk flip deck, Element, a Small Sector cruiser, a Fish Globe cruiser and a Slater fiberglass flexi deck that he scammed of me, My daughter who is 11 has a mid range cruiser and honestly that's about the level of her ability.

They both like to bomb the big Skate park in Albany (the original hill one) and they like street cruising but nothing too steep.

So i'm looking for a few more ideas

I've been looking at the all terrain style of board, for like grassy hills that type of thing? Any ideas on weather they are good, bad or indifferent? Would they suit a say 8 year old grom

Or maybe even the boards i saw once that are a bit more of a gimmick. I saw a board once that had standard trucks on rear but a single wheel on the front to simulate more surfing style

Any ideas would be great. I tend to buy a few boards from Boardshop in QLD but they don't really have anything so anywhere else people could suggest would also be appreciated

JB - your son might like the Vault Smart Bomb from skateboard express...

http://www.skateboardexpress.com.au/vault-smart-bomb-longboard.html

Plenty of other boards on there to have a look at... the Doctor and Samurai are only 36" long which I would think they could handle...

About 5 day delivery to Perth. My son and I have four boards between us... good quality and good service.

my son is 13 and has nearly as many boards as me. he too wants his very own d/h board. he can have one when he can actually footbrake at speed properly, and do controlled slides. if anything i would chuck on some 60mm slide wheels(metro motions being my fave) on the hawk board. once he can do as above and is ready for the next level, for sure get him a d/h board...otherwise imo it is just a expensive fashion statement. get em some good pads and slide gloves and let them practise on small hills. check out the curve da hill guys in brazil to see what you can do d/h hill on a popsicle board and 99a hard wheels...sick

now my pimp...boardshop australia are the ducks nuts for price and service

Rod you have just told us they are 8 and 11, and they have iPods, phones and 6 skateboards between them but they want another skateboard.

I know what to get them for Christmas - a paper round.
Or windscreen squeegee they can use at the traffic lights.

Back in my day we tied an onion to our belt and were happy to be alive let alone get presents. That reminds me of the time......

Electric skateboards are dangerous.

Especially in the hands of drunk old men

nice boards, also easier to push with drop throughs. yet the kid is 8 yo. still a big lump to get around, could practise cross stepping on it
