Cop this load of crap, referance freezing conditions What a drop kick reporter.
Freezing is near zero point you zyloom, not at 23-24 deg C as is the water temp up there. The guy is may well be considered a HERO but FFS "Freezing"
Its the Gold Coast, not Tasmania

A HERO fisherman has saved the life of his injured mate after an epic three-hour swim through freezing waters off the Gold Coast.
A freak wave struck the men's dinghy as they returned from a fishing trip late on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one of them with two dislocated shoulders and a dislocated hip.
They had just enough time to grab their lifejackets before the boat went under.
In a heroic act of endurance, the injured man's mate hauled him across two kilometres of freezing open ocean, battling strong currents and big waves.

I used to be in vmr at Jacobs well and saw more one boat get caught out by jumpinpin bar it can be pretty dangerous. I think swimming back in dragging an injured mate is a pretty heroic effort in that place.

Well....

Actually freezing seawater is about -2 degrees celsius.

And according to the BOM today the seawter at The Spit is 21.5 degrees Celsius (vs an 100 year average of 21.7 degrees for 26th June).

But I am still stuck on what a zyloom is.

I got in the water before the sun came up that day and it was cold in anyone's language. Temp reading on car said it was 8 degrees C just before sun came up with offshore blowing out of the creek mouth. Wind would have been blowing out of the bar that morning.

The mullet fishermen were certainly rugged up.

It was cold standing in a wet steamer when I got out at 8.00am. Couldn't imagine having spent 2 hours in wet clothes in the dark would have been much fun.

The boys were initially stuck in the upturned hull and had to swim out then go back & get life jackets. Dragging your mate with a dislocated hip & 2 dislocated shoulders for 3 hrs is fantastic effort and should be acknowledged.
