I really wanted him not to be guilty of this.

Really makes a person wonder how people find such offensive material a 'turn on'.
Were they themselves subjected to similar abuses as a child?
How do such people develop the initial attraction to 'child pornography'?
It also makes me aware that almost anybody can be guilty or has been subjected to child sexual abuse.
It is no longer the domain of typical stereotype 'dirty old man'.
The statistics are staggering. More people are coming forward, on a daily basis, with memories of sexual abuse.

He looked like such an innocent guy on the show.
I don't know how he walks down the street! I mean he's famous enough to be recognised pretty easily, but not famous enough to be wealthy. Non famous people who commit similar offences are fairly anonomous, and can get on with their lives and hopefully rehabilitate. He will probably get a suspended sentence, but in 10 years time people are still going to be pointing at this guy when he shops in woolworths. It's a completely unsympathetic position he is in (as opposed to some crime where people can sympithise with the offender like a bit of thievery in a moment of weakness etc) In 20 years time if he meets someone for the first time they'll be looking at him funny wondering if he still looks at kiddie porn, or if he is ogling their child imagining them nakid etc
Tasmania's a pretty small place. Imagine his mum - mrs muirhead and how she feels interacting socially with others!
Actually his girlfriend left him. He'll probably want to find another. Good luck with that!

I honestly believe that the accessability of porn does have a detrimental effect. Look at mainstream pornography. What was an extreme/ or rare act 30 years ago is standard fare now. What does this extrapolate to in another 30 years? Perhaps before the days of the internet a lot of these people wouldn't have come across such media and wouldn't have had their interest piqued or begun to feed an obsession, and would have lived out their lives normally.

Hey GD good to see you back

It just goes to show it takes all types and no matter what you might think of people, there is sometime an underlying dark streek. You would never pick it if you saw him in the street and didnt know him.

Hmm...how does one reply to a forum post and get the quote to come up in the cream coloured box? I have tried the 'reply with quote' button, but to no avail.

Just hit the quote button, and type under the last
line in the text entry box.

I caught the last 20 mins of DR Phil today yes sad but true before you judge me his show was on pedophilia and he showed a website you can log onto with your address in the states where the location, photo and address of every known sex offender comes up as an icon on a google like map of your area. I think these sex offenders give up their right to anonymity and being part of a functional society when they commit the crime.
Andy Muirhead like most of these freaks will come up with some sob story like he was molested as a child like most of them do. I hope if he is proven guilty he suffers for the rest of his lonely life.

So you can stand with a group across the road from his house and shout abuse/cut up his front-lawn hose/throw half-bricks though the windows until he leaves the suburb? Then where is he to go?

This statement gives the OK for you to name him at the beginning of your next sentence, does it? Would you have felt uncomfortable about naming him in the context of his actions without nominating a 'punishment' ?

'These' sex offenders, but not 'those' sex offenders?

But the teenager who 'king-hit' and killed a young man up the 'Cross last month (or his cousin on remand for murder in Sydney's west some time back), and the group that murdered a young man in Parramatta the same weekend... are all OK to re-enter a functional society after they do their 10-20 years in prison?

Although he has acknowledged he has viewed child porn, he hasn't been proven guilty - yet your statement adds to his suffering immediately.
