Are Ford Victoria honest?

Cant swallow the latest when Ford announce they are forcibly shedding jobs in two plants in Victoria. Sounds a bit suss to me.

When I visit a Ford Dealership here in the West on Wednesday last, to order a "new" Ford Ranger, and told "Oh ol chap, we couldn't supply until at least April 2013 at earliest, tsk tsk.

Here is a tip you drongo's, get some of your team to allocate the laid off staff to stock up your plants so Joe Purchaser can order and receive a vehicle when he wants, not when you can sort of get around to making the blasted things, you mung beans.

ranger is not made in aus

south america or thailand or taiwan or something, so they are supplying a world market not just here

but they SHOULD be made here, or atleast assembled here

I bought two FG falcons recently (only because they were cheap), and have been amazed at how much car I have gotten for my money. They are great. I really wish they had made a wagon though.

I drove one down from Townsville to Sydney, and for a car that had 175K kms, it was a fantastic drive. It handled well, accelerated well, and used very little fuel. I was getting an average of around 9.4 L/100km for a lot of the trip.

Acceleration? I was shocked at how well a base level car went. If I had bought a turbo version I would be seriously worried about my license, as the non-turbo version goes hard. I think I was lucky that I didn't see that many police on the drive down as it was tempting to go just a little bit faster.

I am really surprised that these things don't sell even better. They are a great car.

"The government are pushed into..." Wow. You could well be right. The Labs certainly seem to lack the decision making and backbone to lead, and your comment suggests you agree.

Fact is, the Labs have to own their decisions.

I don't think anyone would argue that true leaders are rarely (if ever!) pushed into things.

How the economy really works?
It works like this. If you continually spend more money than you make then you go broke. And then you have to suffer the consequences of having to pay the money back.
Just ask anyone from Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy,..

Back in 2005, 2006, 2007 when Julia was in opposition, another one of her throw away lines which she often threw at Howard's government was "the highest taxing government in Australian history,." and it was always said in a tone of sneering derision.
The fact is, it was the highest taxing government in Australian history ,but along with that was delivered a whole lot of benefits to the public, such baby bonuses and tax cuts etc.
And most importantly, there was money left over. The budgets were NOT in deficit.

Total tax revenue at that time (2007) was around 260 billion per year.
Since Kevin and then Joolia were made king,. and then queen,.. the tax take has never gone down less than that. In fact last year it was around 280 billion, and yet they are now running a huge deficit budget. And much of it has not been wisely spent.

If it was previously a matter of concern to Joolia that Howard's government was the highest taxing government in Australian history, how much more concern should there now be that we are now being taxed even more but are getting further in debt every year.
The fact is, regardless of global financial crisis and all other excuses, if they can't run a balanced budget in such prosperous times, and Australia is still in relatively prosperous times, then there is no hope for our future. If we continue on making excuses for constant deficits we will certainly go the same way as Greece, Spain, etc. That path is well travelled.
We have no excuse to wander blithely along it hoping that we will be saved by some unknown future cash bonanza that will be dug out of another hole in the ground. It wont be. All the easy holes have been dug. The future holes will be more expensive and less profitable.
Get the budget back under control now and keep it that way.
If we can't afford something now then we can't have it now.
It's as simple as that.

I know where the bloody things are made But Ford announced some two years back that they were moving off shore.
If I can get a Caterpillar Earthmoving machine from USA mid-west (who supply world wide as well)faster than these Ford drongo's can organise, assemble and ship a run of the mill 4X4 Ford Ranger, then there is an issue with the Ford Management team in organising the next step. No wonder they found that they were non competitive here in the plants.
Cat stopped making the motor graders at Tullamarine some years back, but supply didn't get it in the neck, Cat just upped the output from new plants
This is the same crap we are supposed to be swallowing when top level ranked man in Rio Tinto claims the unions are the root of his blow out wages bill. Rio and the rest of the big miners have made their beds offering salary and wages to run non union sites well above the norm, and now want to blame everyone else for their predicament
When I last checked its “free enterprise” here in Australia. Not a dictatorship that the Rio man and his mates would prefer, so they can control the system.

Well, it seems to go in cycles or booms and busts (not that kind Doggie). You have your good times where people spend up big, and you have your bad times where people stop spending as much.

The economy is not just a savings account. It is not that simple.

I still think it amazing that most people did not realise how bad it could have been in 2008/2009 and how bad other places had it.

Ford Crown Victorias are what most of the Taxis and Cop cars in the US are.

AND before anyone pipes up and posts pics of their formula kit in a Barina, I can fit all my sails, booms, sail box (fin and stuff) all in the boot including camping gear.

The Holden wagon (VE forward) doesn't have the length in the boot to do it.

The only other option is a van and there's no way I'm buying a van.
