Not wanting to appear insensitive. Is it just me or does the Brisbane overview shot (pre-flooding) show alot of building activity on the low lying flood plain right on the edge of the river. www.nearmap.com/au/en
As a comparison, Perth has a much wider river winding through a sand plain that is less prone to flooding. Even so most of the low lying area on the edge of the swan river is occupied by golf courses, nature reserves and parklands.
Not wanting to appear insensitive!
But for years I have always known about the cheap land in QLD
in low lying arrears.
Cheap because it was in flood plain areas.
When we move to Safety Bay I am well aware
we could have mini - or big cyclones come through and take the roof off.
and that it is low lying and could end up with the ocean in our yard during a storm.
My brother moved from Perth to Brisbane but would not by a house lower down
from were he is...as as kids and now adults we new Brisbane had the Potential to flood..
My anger goes to the councils that opened up low lying flood plains to sell the land and hope for the best.![]()

With one dam and the change in Australia's weather patterns..the Qld flood would have to happen again in the not to distant future.
My heart goes out to all the people that have a mortgage but no house,
will maybe have to cut their losses and rent (if they can get a place) and pay high rents and a mortgage on a house you can't live in (how do you find money like that
)
Don't worry even in South Australia we have a government
developing a new housing estate in an area that at the moment floods every 3-5 years.
Every time the subject of "Buckland Park" comes up the number 1 item on the list is potential flooding...... ![]()

And with this level of "intelligent planning" (not) shown by government
, they want to build nuclear power plants. ![]()

^ Thats the thing, if a flood or cyclone does hit Perth no-one (well maybe GD) will be ready for it and the buildings are not built for it so the damage could be substantial.
