Im looking to upgrade the antivirus software on my windows 7 64 bit laptop.
Im running avg internet security 2011 atm and its letting to many viruses in for my liking ![]()
Whats everyone else using ?
I use Microsofts 'Security Essentials'/Windows Defender. I clean up with Spybot once or twice a week. I havent had a problem for a long time, even with the occasional visit to a well known tube site(by accident of course). I still run Windows firewall in favour of an alternative. I guess really it depends how you navigate the web and the risks you take.
Stay safe and stay hassle free.
A lot of opinion on this topic ... regularly does the rounds....
1). Get a good firewall
2). Use a vetting product to clean up email before downloading if this is a weak link
3). Choice of DNS can be really useful - it depends on your browsing and download habits...
4). Find out about sandpits - you can run your browser inside one and be attacked with no consequences -
I rely on this site as a basic reference...
Read around if interested - or go straight to the results table.....

End of the day it all comes down to your browsing habits and how wary/smart you are (although of course nothing is 100%). I didn't run any anti-virus software for about 10 years up until about a year ago, i'd put one on every now and then out of curiosity...never had a virus. The best free one in my opinion is Microsoft security essentials, AVG is bloatware as are most.
I also think if you are getting that many viruses you really need to look at your computer usage habits ![]()
Thanks for the help guys !
I mostly stream movies from the 1channel website alot which i know is virus heaven
and browse seabreeze when bored.....
but ive never got 1 virus till today when i got hit with a truck load of em. Had to scan my computer 3 times to get rid of em all (i think i got rid of em)
and had a bunch of malware install itself on my laptop i had to manually uninstall......
No idea what went wrong today but thought i should take it as a sign that my software needs updateing :)
Here ww2.aladel.net/ download everything and always Click "OK"
Enjoy.
PS: Macs are for homos, who don't know how to use a PC.

First of all, never take advice like "I use this-that and am OK, so it must be OK".
Includes me: I use the big two free ones and I've never had problems. ![]()
Seriously, up to about a year ago, AVG and Avast had the best reviews in terms of finding the new virii first, before the others. Haven't gone around the reviews lately, but I put my money on them anytime, given they're also free.
Most of the people I know that do heavy, careless surfing use those two - never Norton nor McAfee.
I have had a netbook Aspire One for just over 2 years decided to test what would be the result if I had no antivirius for just acessing the internet on a regular basis with no email access.
Well to date no problems and faster access.
I agree with above. People don't get virii doing simple browsing and Word stuff.
Much less interfering processes in the way too. First thing I do for people when they buy a new computer is to remove Norton or McAfee it comes with, and even brand new machines get faster.
