The Dog

The truth I do not stretch or shove
When I state that the dog is full of love.
I've also found, by actual test,
A wet dog is the lovingest.

Ogden Nash

Just a bit of doggerel really

There was a young man from rasse
His bollocks were made of brass
in stormy weather
they clanged together
and sparks came out of his ass.

In all seriousness but...

Lawson

hard to not read Lawson without a heartstring twang for an Australia pre consumerist, real estate obsessed, xenophobic mindset

Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

etc

I know it all by heart and read it countless times to my kids as they grew up.

Tireless piece of nonsense.

My favourite as well Bigwave also anything by Spike Milligan.

I must go down to the sea again

to the lonely sea and the sky.

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?

There was an old whore from the Azores
Whose xxxx was all covered in big sores
The Dogs in the street lapped up the green meat
That hung in festoons from her drawers.

There came from me

By a secret source

But just where I couldn’t tell

An odour, whiff

A pungent sniff

Of a most peculiar smell

I raised my arms

And checked my palms

its origin discrete.

It wasn’t my knees

(It smelled like cheese)

The type you wouldn’t eat

I finally admitted failure

disillusionment complete

I couldn’t expose

The affront to my nose

I suppose it was defeat

In the same vein Singo I remember reading of a poetry competition.

The requirements for the poem were.

1. It had to rhyme

2. It needed to be short and to the point

3. It should be about something everyone liked.

The winner was

Pay day.
