Howdy all, i need some advice.
I am a female school teacher who has taken on an elective subject to teach, it is outdoor education with high school students.
Our first project is to build a couple of land yachts in our metal work rooms and hopefully sail them on the lake.
My lack of expertise in this area, never built a yacht, never sailed, never been on a salt lake is very limiting to my enthusaisum to make this project wonderful for the students. I have built lots of things so im not scared of the building side of things, just the plans and where to get the materials.
Any advice would be wonderful, ie plans, pricing, what to watch out for, eyc, etc.
cheers Lynda

the second on is based around Remote control design, but the formulas should be about the same and it gets pretty technical, so you could even include a mathematics unit in your class. very jelous of your students, we never got to do cool stuff like that!
good luck
Hi Lynda,
Here is a link to the construction of a small landyacht that would ideal for students to build in metal working classes.
Using common materials that are easy to obtain
The designer (Paul Day or Landyacht on ths forum) is a great guy and would be more than happy to assist in any way you might need.
I have given you a direct link to the construction details as wading through the forum might be a bit daunting.
But jump on the land yacht forum i'm sure we can help you.

Welcome to Seabreeze!!
Being in WA you could probably get Paul Day to make a guest appearance to help get things started. He also makes sails out of recovered materials or donated wind surfing sails, which otherwise can be a bit expensive. The wind surfing team on here have been very generous to us! ![]()
As said above theres plenty of info here and I think the Lefroy mini would be an ideal project for high school students. I just wish my teachers thought of it!! ![]()
