My son has picked up a casual job at a local Pet store. Regardless of day of the week he earns $70 for the day as a 14yo - so about $8.24/hr. This is chain brand store, so not a Mum and Dad business.
As he's just done his 3 months 'probation' he has been issued his employment agreement, which does not state which award he comes under, or rates of pay. I was under the impression that the Retail award still included a loading for Sat/Sunday work.
He just turned 15 this week, so just want to check what he should be due - but have just spent a frustrating 1/2 hour Googling too many FairWork websites and cannot find a simple table that tells me...!
Does anyone have any solid knowledge on this... Thanks!

Also i followed the prompts on this link and as a Junior in the retail/store he should be on $20.80 but i might have calcualted wrong.

Picked him up from work just now and went into the Butcher's just around the corner from home to get a couple of snags and T-Bones for the BBQ, and he asked the question... starts tomorrow for $10/hr doing the general end of day cleaning...

The awards are far too complicated. I hired someone on a 457 visa. The amount of paper work I had to wade through was crazy! Register as an approved employer/create an approved position/get the employee approved. We did it in the end. I just remember being lost up to my eyeballs in the general onsite award. I still have know idea how to determine what I should pay people. I just pay them well above the top tier. You can ring fair work they were very helpfull when I called.

hey GPA dont no the ins and outs of the award, but my 15 year old gets 9.10 an hour mon to fri. 1.5 time on a sat and double bubble for a Shift worked on sunday.![]()

I often employ youngsters in the holidays, so I ask them what maccas is paying then pay about $2.00 more, but not overtime rates. Im rather lazy at doing long hrs, so thats not an issue
I used to employ kids after school as 'floor sweepers' at $10 p/hr cash (not much, but these kids appreciated the cash & it was also over 10 yrs ago). If they proved themselves over a period of time they were first in line for an apprenticeship.
This worked well for all involved until a mum came in one day with her son & asked about workcover, super & groupl cert. for her 14yo kid...that was the end of that setup & myself & employees had to get back on the broom themselves.![]()
