Been looking at a few Hiaces around the place and have found one that says it has a NEW engine fitted, and shows pics of the engine before fitting. I've become aware that Chinese made copies of the Toyota 2RZ motors are being produced. Does anyone know if these engines have made it into Australia or how to tell if a motor is Chinese made?

If you jump in the van for a drive and it only does 20ks an hour, is impossible to reverse park, doesnt stop at Stop signs, changes lanes every 5 mins and parks in disabled parking lots it probably has some sort of chinese influence

Still chasing up dodgy old Hiaces? I thought we'd talked you around. Latest news, Sabine Schmitz's Nurburgring van record ( Ford Transit ) has been broken by 11 seconds.

Not on the fence at all. I've returned to Australia in the last week and now I'm hunting down a good used Hiace. Trouble is the damn things are very expensive!

I'd need a lot more convincing about the VWs...

You'd never convince me into a VeeWee, but I've no interest in Toy Yodas either. Come into the 21st century and choose which model Hyundai suits you most. Toyotas are an OK average vehicle with a thoroughly over-priced name badge!

Most Jap makes have parts and some complete models made in China now. If you want a Jap car I think you have a choice of either Subaru or Suzuki.

My budget is 10k or under. Not many options unfortunately.

Consider importing a Mitsubishi Delica or Nissan Elgrand from Japan. You can get one for less than $10k complianced and registered. It will be much more comfortable than a Hiace.

Neither have the length required for a lot of kit unfortunately.
