My Pathfinder has had a stability control light flicking on/off slowing motor and occasionally triggering brake....
After extensive investigation - the flywheel = Dual mass type is though to be the cause along with the clutch - both wearing/worn out.

$5K for new genuine
$2k for standard flywheel (no dual mass) / clutch (after market).

What is reasonable???
What is the change from a dual mass to a standard flywheel likely to do??

Last clutch I replaced cost 120 quid (80 on part 40 on using shed/hoist/tools/showing me the way) on my old van (when I was a kid)

Any insights appreciated

Cheers

Go the 2k option with no dual mass. It will be a bit different to drive but you will get used to it.

Ta Doggie - is $2k reasonable??

I am a bit POff had from new 5 yo 110k on clock I drive 95+% of time at 50+ I am not a clutch smoking hoon -
I took Mark_australia's advice on a BStone light truck tyre - G8 ..
I don't suppose a tougher than (IMHO sub-)standard clutch comes cheapish
I want a light truck clutch too!!

Thanks

I have had custom made clutches built for me in the past,

There may well be someone over your way that can rebuild your knackered clutch for you with better materials than the original.

Try contacting clutch and brake specialists, if that doesnt work- give the "Hot Rod" clubs or speedway and motor racing fabricators a call.
They will know who does this sort of work.

My heavy duty custom clutches for V6 ford capri's ended up costing about 2/3's of an original, while uprated clutches for Fiat twin cams with a few dollars cheaper than originals- and they all lasted heaps longer.

2k is average, my V8 clutch cost about that and that was with dual mass flywheel, I wish I could change it to a sigle now tho..

Go the 2K option like Dogster said.

If you tow a bit, or do sand work so it gets a good burn when slipping it getting out of a bog - Daikin Safari tough clutch. The ducks nuts and cheaper than OE

Costing me for a 98 Magna $1180 for a new clutch, machined flywheel and rear seal replaced. that was the cheapest I found through a clutch specialist, its around $700+ for the clutch but the guy is doing it for trade price at $485 for me. Labor costs are the killer.

Go the cheapest option. I read that even the heavy duty clutch I can get will only last about 20000-30000km more give or take than the standard.

Mines getting done on Tuesday. Im beginning to think that bringing back the horse and carriage may be cheaper in the long run.

ThankU - more in comfort zone...(apart from the wallet)

Single fly after market (Safari Tuff - not the HD - Ducks nuts eh!!) have tried a few specialists - all on the same song sheet. (SN - Basically it is out with the old in with the new - can't do much with stuffed dual mass).
With something like this I hate finding out after the job that the Garage shops the work to another and doubles the labour charge for their show room support fund.

My neighbour's mate may help out with a better quote Monday...

Now that I understand dual mass concept (ThankU Stu) - it can't be any worse than the SWBase LCruiser (U remember the WHoopieeee + 410k on the clock) used to chug thru the bull dust out west during the 80's.

Time to build another work bench in my section of the garage
