So..
I've just applied for a housing loan, found a house to purchase and going through the motions of settlement, purchase and moving the family to a new town and a transfer with the job. Keeps you fairly busy with a 4 and 1 year old.
Have worked for the state govmint for the past 10 years and have a clean slate with bucks in the bank so a housing loan should just be going through the motions.
Got told this week, when the loan should be approved that the credit reference agency VEDA are asking the bank about my Chevrolet Importation business and a bunch of loans I have never taken out with banks I've never dealt with and living in Hammy Hill...WTF...
Talking to to VEDA reveals that there is a bloke with my name and birth date living in WA who is this person.
They took our first and last names and birth dates and assumed we are the same person and combined that on one credit reference sheet. They did not take into account my middle names, drivers license no, passport no or any other information that they probably have access to.
As a result of this the broker says I can be charged with credit fraud for not disclosing a business or loans when applying for a housing loan...More WTF..
Currently sorting this mess out and need to settle the house next week of which I will do after talking to these morons.
But.. my question is...why is the credit reference agency who all banks use so utterly wrong and can influence my capacity to get a housing loan or any other credit for that matter and where can I drag these bastar$ds through the ringer.
Would be interested in any comment you may have.
hey lurch, long time mate. where are you off to this time?
i have a similar story of carelessness on the part of the authorities: I applied for a new passport a few years ago when mine expired. I filled out the form, got it all signed and witnessed including the photos.
On the application I wrote my old passport number down wrongly by one digit. a few weeks later I received a new passport, in someone else's name, with my photos in it. the dept of foreign affairs must have looked at the number on the application, and simply issued a new passport for that number without checking anything else. and to make it worse, the bloke whose passport i received had an asian name and nobody clicked that my blonde/blue eyed mug didn't correspond....

Sorry, I can help you with direct experience, but there does seem to be someone you can complain to. If the direct approach to them doesn't seem to be working, maybe you can check these links out and see who you can talk to:http://www.privacy.gov.au/complaints/who/credit
www.privacy.gov.au/law/act/credit
www.privacy.gov.au/materials/types/codesofconduct/view/6787
Thanks Saffer
That seems to be the logical course of action and I'll probably head down that path. At the end of the day I've found a cool house the family wants to live in with transfer to the new position. Any thoughts on regulatory agencies who deal with sort of thing would be great.
Stamp ol' boy!!
Just scored a transfer to Margaret River after being in Lano for 5 years. Got myself a new quiver of Reo's and I think I may have to get some longer boards if I want to hold it with the local crew.
Spent a few weeks camping at Warroora and Exy the other month, good to spend time in the motherland....![]()
I think the big issue here is the credit reference agency VEDA has a computer that ha s assumed that myself and this other guy with the same name and birth date are the same person. As a result of they have combined our credit history.
If this guy had #ucked up and gone into serious credit default then I'm potentially going to wear it.
We all talk about big brother and all that bollocks but if a simple computer glitch with a company that holds your credit rating that all banks use to assess your standing in regard to your ability to hold credit (ie. a house), then I think questions need to be asked.
Goodness me is a chem trail I can smell.......![]()
A prosecution for credit fraud would never get off the ground. I seriously doubt the bank or the credit agency would ever bother filing a complaint, I'd take it as an empty threat.
Best advice is to be open and up front with the sellers, agent and settlement agents so everyone knows what is going on, if it drags out there are provisions to delay settlement for a few days but they are restrictive and you might need everyone on board and in agreeance if it takes too long to resolve.
Maybe get a copy of your credit file VEDA are holding if you haven't already www.mycreditfile.com.au/ even if it costs you $60 so you can see exactly where they have farked up.
Veda is a private company, not a govt agency, and I can't find any dispute resolution process on their website, Baycorp are another credit agency but do have some details on their website which link you directly to www.privacy.gov.au/ and www.privacy.gov.au/complaints so FormulaNova is pointing you in the right direction.
I'd familiarise myself with the complaint process then talk to Veda and give them the opportunity to resolve it in the first instance giving them the understanding that you are familiar with, and will lodge a complaint and consider civil action against them if not resolved immediately.
Remember you are dealing with a credit agency that deal with scammers and bankrupts every day that try and pull all sorts of bullsh&t to get out of debts and scam money. You are now an innocent stuck in a ****ty system, you will need to play their game a little to come out clean.
It's not likely a computer error either, some clerk somewhere has stuffed up, and probably only once and the error would have stayed there forever if you didn't apply for the mortgage.
Or we just need to pop over tomorrow and make sure you don't have that shed stuffed full of Chevvies ![]()
Hmmm
Ive got a mate in sunny Melbourne who has a sweet 65 Impala wagon that spends a fair bit of time down the west coast!!
What's it called when you don't hear about anything for ages, then it comes at you from multiple directions all at once?
I read this post yesterday, and today I'm having a credit reference agency verifying my credit history. On the Canada Post website, where I was filling in a form for mail redirection, it gave me a set of multiple choice questions about my credit history. The questions were in sets of 3:
1) Our records indicate you have a financial commitment for (insert service type here), commenced approximately (insert date here). Who is it with (multiple choice options)
2) How much is the monthly bill (multi choice options of different price ranges)
3) What bank is the money being drawn from (multi choice options)
Not one of them was even remotely accurate. We only moved to Canada in August, and the latest date suggested was 2011. I thought there was another GreenPat here for a second. Then I filled out the "None of the above" option for everything and decided they were randomly generated questions...
Lurch as a broker, your broker has done you no favours and should have been guiding you through the process.
Interesting why this only comes up a week from settlement, normally this comes up on application 4or5 weeks ago. But never the less, pay and get a copy of your report so you have a copy in your hand before they start changing things.
I would call them next business day, however they may be Tuesday as its a public holiday n Sydney Monday. But try anyway, put it in wiring and get a name to deal with.
I suspect but don't know but they should be a member of COSL which is the credit ombudsman or the banking ombudsman or speak to ASIC as they provide a service to the credit industry and are bound by the rules and regulations.
If you want to PM me do so and I can walk you through things
Best of luck with it
