So which kitesurfers will win the event this year?

It's not rocket science, it's just the difference between skating on solids and liquids. Windsurfers will never catch an ice yacht or a blow cart. But both kite boarders and windsurfers need to balance the shallow water tradeoffs. Vertical lift becomes less draggy, but horizontal lift becomes more draggy due to the short crappy fins that have to be used.

But I got overtaken cruising upwind in deep water by a fellow on one of those new crappy fins the other day. Going higher and faster! So they're not all that bad.

I don't think windsurfers have hit the break even point of shallow water yet. Multi fins using this idea should get windsurfers into shallower water. They'll catch the kites if someone is brave enough to ride them.
