CAN EVERYBODY REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ON MAY 16TH.
IT WILL BE A REALLY CLOSE VOTE.
LAST NIGHT WAS DARK AT 814PM.
IF DAYLIGHT SAVINGS VOTED AGAINST WILL BE DARK DURING SUMMER JUST AFTER 7PM!!!!!
IMAGINE GETTING ON WATER AFTER WORK AT 6PM AND HAVING JUST OVER 1 HOUR OF SAILING!!!!!
IF YOU LOVE THE WIND VOTE YES
CHEERS
After three referendums - all against it, make the message clear this time.
No means no.
It doesn't work in WA.
the pros have to outdo the cons with it. I'm for it as theres nothing better having an extra frothy or two as the sun goes down after work.
The biggest con I see and i sympathise with is the parents trying to put the littlies to bed when its still light. I remember living in sydney and I'm sure I gave my olds hell during summer.
But for a state that pretty much prides itself on its coast and beach culture it can't be anything but a good thing to enjoy it for extra hour.
And to those who say just get up an hour earlier and do stuff in the morning...I'd like to see some survery results of the % of those that engage in activities early morning pre DLS to those that now engage in activities in afternoon with DLS.
What will be will be I guess...it's just disappointing the level of naivety and ignorance that still exist about it all
Ease up turbo...someones taking it a little personal.
My comment was on the fact that there seems to me there is still a large percentage of people who are basing their decision on the total ridiculous ...such as out of sympathy for the cows and chickens who now have to get up an hour earlier...saying since DLS my milk and eggs haven't tasted the same. The old faded blinds...does anyone remember when Mr D'orazio said he'd replace people blinds himself if they could prove they faded because of DLS? What else is there...my new spray job on my car is ruined because of the 'extra' hour of daylight...
You'd be mistaken for thinking people were taking the piss with these comments...buts it's scary that this level ignorance actually exists...
dls is only for people stuck in the 9-5 syndrome- builders who work 7-3 don't care less about it really. night shift workers don't give a shift either way. i spend my life inspecting underground sewers on contact for the csiro so my longest hours working are done on windless days.
Pick your working hours and dls becomes irrelavent
As noted previously on this subject, there is no significant "daylight" to "save" for people north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
I've yet to see any DS advocates comment on how the so called "benefits" of DS are completely dependent on where you live. Perth people just see DS from the Perth-centric point of view with no regard for the effect on people in Kalgoorlie, Broome, and, most especially Kununnara. The latter location will have no DS effect at all even in the peak of summer, because on average, they recieve less than 1 hour of extra sunlight during the summer. Albany has some 90 minutes more daylight in December than Kununurra even though both have sunrise at the same time.
One solution might be to localise DS to south of a line between Geraldton and Esperance. Then the Perthlings would have their precious DS without affecting parts of the state where it made no sense, and everyone would live happily ever after
But that would spoil the game plan of DS pushers wanting to treat everyone in the state of WA as if we all lived in Perth.![]()
