Not a bad man made wave considering the little effort that was put in to making it...

I wonder how many times a year they get to do that.

Love it!
Not a bad effort. Reminds me of the scene in Endless Summer II where they do this.

They do this at Dee Why Lagoon too.

But here it fills up with dirty rain water and Im sure some of them get herpes and other species of crustations on their peepees after getting wet.

Similar to other areas of Sydney nightlife.

That water certainly didn't look to clean to begin with, that's for sure!

Does anyone know how long Dee Why lagoon takes to empty out? Just curious...

From chock-a-block to disgusting bottom showing about 2 days depending on swell size and tides.

The guts of the wave last for about 1 to 2 hours then it piddles out for as he said up to a couple of days.

It's the worst when you go surfing not knowing that has just opened up. All the guys who live off kiting the Lagoon seriously cry when it has just been emptied up after some rain (or kids).

Interesting - that's longer than I thought it would last.

Because it's only about 1-1.5 metres deep, alot of the water coming out is slowed by the high tide (at times water flows back in)

Going back 30 years my buddies and I were looking at opening up the Moore River bar as it usually meant the surf was better. A Ranger and the threat of a $HUGE fine soon changed our minds. Not too good for the ecosystem apparently

Dont forget, DY lagoon gets all the run off from half of Collaroy Plateau and EVERYTHING from Dee Why/Cromer industrial and residential areas.
No wonder the water colour and stench is the way it is, thats lots of dog poo flushing into the lugga!!!!
We used to quickly sail across it back in the 80's to get to the surf but if kiters want to sail in it gthese days then I reckon their boardies outside their wetties will be glow in the dark quite soon!!![}:)]

On another topic there had been a dude living on the edge of the lagoon in a tent.the poor guy's probably gone homeless.
