Dear Sony,
(see lift out brochure in today's Courier Mail if you have).
Your add for the 200HZ Bravias is full of marketing lies.
A) You are confusing refresh rate, Hertz, with Frames Per Second (FPS). You think you'd get this right it being the crux of the technology for the advertisement.
The two have nothing in common. 50HZ does not = 50FPS. It's akin to saying 200HP = 8litres/100km, or 20kg = orange.
B) Therefore everything else is incorrect. The figure comparing the difference in images between 50hz and 200hz is incorrect. There will not magically be more frames of the ball as it moves. The frames aren't there to begin with. They never existed when the footage was captured at ~24 FPS. End of story.
C) The second diagram shows 5 frames. The first is labelled 1/200 sec, the last 2/200 sec. There are three in the middle. We can count. What you have illustrated here is 4 frames for each 1/200 sec, or an 800hz system.
Your sincerely,
Sick of this bull****.
Dude.... This is seabreeze and umm not Sony!
But I like your style, now go tell SONY that and ask for something in return, we need clever people like you to save dummies like me from the big multi nationals........Attack em boy!!!![}:)]
Good luck mate![]()
It's a PHONY!
PHONY are THE most overated, overpriced gear EVER.
Most folks that buy PHONY wouldn't even take the time to read the phony blurb - let alone discern the inaccuracies. People buy PHONY because it has a nice obvious PHONY badge that all their PHONY luvin friends will notice..
Stay away unless you have more dollars than sense. ![]()
If I get bored enough there's a new Sony Centre up the road from me. I might go in and ask a salesman how 200hz makes 4x the frame rate.
"So the movie was 24 frame/sec and now it's ...96!? Hang on... 96? You said this was 200hz!"
Could be fun.
re: my interpolation comment.

It's not impossible that 4 intermediate frames are being calculated between each broadcast frame, but I doubt that a TV would have that sort of processing power.
On further reading, the Bravia seems to do post processing between frames.

Sony is overrated,
take a look at the sony range of Car audio gear , absolutely terrible!![]()
but everyone raves about it - why?? cos its sony.
but if you look at perhaps some of the better less well known brands that are more expensive you will get much better quality. like Alpine For example.
I like Alpine
Is Alpine is good , Is sony is bad.![]()
A good mate of mine works at a specialist home theater type of store, he reckons Pioneer make the best LCD or is it plasma ? TVs
Which i was supprised by cos Pioneer make some crap Car gear aswell.
(DISCLAIMER) i know car gear is not home gear , and i know that the competition level pioneer gear is pretty good and that pioneer used to be the stuff to have in your car - unforunately not any more.
Sorry but as a repairer, Pioneer dont get my vote either lol. For value for money vs quality in the LCD range, we find that the new Samsungs are hard to beat.
When it comes to home theater I cant really say I like any of them. They are all over rated, poorly designed (from a service point of view) and way too expensive for what you get. The current Harmon Kardon range are ok but nothing to write home about.
Mechanic? I sympatise with you... back in the day when I was a rev head with fast Jap cars, I think we came to the conclusion that somewhere in Japan there is a few guys with 6ft long arms and 8 fingers per hand.... so that is what you need to get to some of the stuff on modern cars.
(PS: mine was a 93 Laser TX3 4WD with 240 Kw at flywheel
I miss her...)
Yep Japanese cars are the worst for that.
My hiace is an absolute Moll to work on. luckily it hasnt really fkd up yet. ( note to anyone who knows me and my car - the recent fk up Re diff mount was my fault , van meets rocks = realignment of diff )
Fast jap cars. . . mmm i like
My mate has a Series 5 RX7 13b turbo intercooled , very quick.
My dream car is a Series 8 RX7 Twin turbo blah blah.
Would have one now but i hardly fit in it let alone windsurfing gear!
