If there's no wind in Perth this weekend here is a option;

I didn't know they had them here in WA so keen to go for an optic. It's hard to beat the serenity of sailing but a few thousand pounds of thrust comes close.

These "open days" are proven recruitment mechanisms for the forces, and well worth attending.

But, I do find it odd that, from the RAAF's website, a major sponsor for the day is Sandalford, Margaret River. Wine and supersonic aircraft?? An "interesting" association.

You can usually avoid al the traffic and fly in yourself so long as you get there before the air displays start.

that would explain all the stunt teams practicing over kalgoorlie, better to stuff up out here than have the runway closed on the weekend

Yes the organisers are expecting huge traffic jams on the weekend,as the Classic Car Show is happening at Gingin on the same weekend(uses the same road system),police and volunteers will be on the Great Northern Hwy and also on the "backroad"(I think it's called Neaves Rd). I was told they are expecting the traffic to be banked back to Midland.

Just a reminder, it's on tomorrow and Sunday. The kids will love it, and maybe their wives to.

they were showing off, (and i mean showing off), up and down the coast yesterday.
Flippin awesome. Loop to loops, corkscrews, heaps of smoke p!ss!n from the back to make patterns and wing to wing formation flying..
This one out front did a corkscrew with smoke p!ss!n out behind it to make a funnel that all the other planes flew through..

just wondering if anyone went - thinking about going up tomorrow (after a quicky surf ).

How was the traffic / parking / queues for food & toilets etc - as I heard they were expecting 40,000 to attend.

Thanks

i am going tommorrow , had a bunch of mates go today . they said get there before 10:30am and you'll be fine . one mate rocked up at 11 and had a 2 hour wait to park .

Apart from that they said it was awesome although they are not plane nuts like me so i'll make my judgement tommorrow

b52 did a flypast at 2:30pm

Get there early. We arrived at 9.45 and there were heaps of people there already. Long lines to get onto aircraft, worth the wait to get onto the C17 Globemaster, bloody HUGE. Fighters put on a good show. Not often you get to see a B52 do a fly past too.
The downside is getting out of the base. I would park in the LIA south of the base and walk the 400m in. Took us over 30min to travel the 600m out to the main road. Lots of people were getting out of their cars, wandering over to the local bottleshop and getting some roadies. The traffic was that slow.
All in all a good day.

I got there around 9am today. Was easy getting a park then, no line or anything.

The show was awesome. The superhornet was a noisy mofo. I think it was the loudest one, unless it just made me deaf so all the other ones seemed quieter. I'd definitely recommend taking some ear plugs, was going to but forgot.

Leaving was a bit of a bitch...Because i got there so early the carpark seemed 'small' it had grown heaps by the arvo, took ages to find the bloody thing.

It's lucky they didnt have a sign up stand there (at least that I could find) because after seeing the show...pretty tempting. haha.

Also, I left via Neaves road (or whatever it is), by the sounds of things this was a much much better option for leaving.

Complaining about the traffic is silly anyway, there is probably nothing they could do to have made it smooth. It's a single lane Hwy...

Worth the wait in traffic anyway.

Frigge'n awesome.
Got there at 9am, no traffic and plenty of parking. The sun had some bite to it so best to take the sunscreen and hat, the lines for food were long (half hour wait) so best to take snacks and drink. Well worth the effort if you've never been before, we got back to the car at 2:30 to watch the B52 and another Hornet from the car park and got out in 15 minutes.

haha which carpark . I was in carpark 1 i think it was coming from neaves road .

Took me longer in the line to get in through the ****house ticket stall than it did to get out of the carpark .

6 booths for that amount of people was pretty **** . Apart from that the show was good . B-52 was really awesome . Amazing to see a machine like that up close . A very special treat for airshows in australia .

took me about 1 1/2 hours to get out of the carpark and that was purely as traffic management was ****house but i had plenty of water and food and music to keep me occupied so it didn't bother me too much . Only concern was needing a piss after an hour and realising there were no empty bottles in the car until i managed to commandeer an empty bottle off some guy walking to his car :)

I was in the northern car park. I actually left via Great Northern Hwy though and it was just near the gate there the two went for it. To be fare though everyone was coming up and having a go at the parking attendants and a few i told to grow up and piss of didn't like it very much either. Especially the old lady who stuck her head in my car and told my wife that they were all a bunch of Fudging Mother rooters. My kids really like that bit Wife not so much
