Evry morning I read the electric news papers before i come to this forum,
I appreciate the small regional news papers, they print real stuff that the big
media moguls don't touch. You can keep in touch with what is happening in
places you may have been at, tis good..... However a story in a certain Big
Adelaide paper reported that there were 1400 odd replys/ comments on a
story of their own earthquake.. I read some, Sth Australiabs must be small
minded, Normal comments to a very serious story may run to 300 tops.
But here a bit of a wobble creates mass hysteria. What will occur if there
is a real movement of the earth for them [}:)]![]()

I was in Padang when the big one hit last September, they dont know what an earthquake is! That one was 7.6rs.
we had a cracker in Kal today
I had got out of bed early and gone to work, so we can discount that theory!
The dang trailer lifted about 100mm and slammed down then we just shook for almost a full minute
my offsider , who'd never felt one was looking very worried, especially since I was laughing hard.Burt st in Boulder got absolutely slammed.
all the buildngs on Burt st are long narrow shops with open spaces between 2 old brick wall on rotten footings with soft old mortar. So when the shock waves came through the tops of the walls just flopped over and collapsed the roofs.
most of the street damage was the old heavy cement and brick ornate facades that were tacked on top of the dodgy walls.
. most of the buildings that suffered were old heritage listed ones that had no work for the last 100years or hadnt had work done because the heritage listing made them too frustrating and expensive to work on. I was amazed that no-one was hurt, given the road cracks and vehicles bouncing clear off the ground
I work with a blonde 20yo who, after the last big quake overseas, said "I'm glad we don't get them in Australia". And no she knew nothing of the Newcastle Earthquake because she hadn't been born at that time.
