Hey all,

I have to evict some unwanted housemates this weekend (Im the only one on the lease) and was wondering if anyone here's had to do it before. If so did you encounter any problems along the way? any advice on how to break it to them? I was planning on giving them some time to get sorted/find somewhere else to live, should I?

My main reasoning for giving them the boot is they've managed to turn the place into a bit of a halfway house for their buddies from their previous point of origin and letting them share the room isnt at all working out (they occupy a lot of the general living space). there's plenty of other smaller reasons that I could probably live with on a day to day basis but put it all together and Subs is really stressed out

Thank God for being able to escape by going windsurfing (or as we call it over here in WA now, floating)

put everything, bar their most personals, on the front lawn and change the locks, then demand all outstandings in return for the personals...

arm yourself beforehand if your flatmates are likely to run you through

+1

Go hard from the start. Brings back "fond" memories from my younger days....

But seriously, if you want them out, then kick them out big time. You are the name on the lease, you will be the one left holding the baby (Now you know where that expression comes from !!!!!)

Make sure you draft a light version of the Sheldon Cooper style of room mate agreement to keep things in check with your next tennants , J

Sit them down for shots of Black Sambuca. Kind of symbolic. After the first or second shot, it's time to tell them that they need to move on !!

you sneaky wotsit

perfect solution, freeloaders get moved on, Subs can tell them the new owner renewed the lease but read him the riot act about too many in the house.

best part is that under the Recognised Australian Cartonage Rules, NoBS is supposed to share the carton with Subs!

Why don't you just suggest this really cool internet forum to them called "seabreeze". Tell them you hang out on here as someone called subs.

Only had to do it once, what I did was printed out a really official-looking document with a big red "Eviction notice" on it, gave the housemate two weeks to move out.

Worked fine, there's something about a letter that makes them sit up and take notice.

Good luck with it

had this problem once.
i rang the local police and told them i would be evicting a tenant and I thought it might get violent. they asked at what time ,and what day I would be doing it and they turned up and sat in their car out the front.
a very peacable solution for all

Hey
I really need your help, they've turned violent.

I've managed to barricade myself into the shed with my laptop, but ive only got a few days worth of dog food in here with me. I'm at:

Nah just kidding. All bar the clean tidy housemate are moving out, and he's fifo so its all good. no excitement, no chasing them out with a machete in hand, and the holy hand grenade of antioch is still stored away safely under my bed ready for the next adventure into the unknown.

sorry to disappoint you all, it was a bit of an anti-climax

And Saint Attila raised the Hand Grenade up on high, saying:

"O Lord, bless this thy Hand Grenade that with it thou mayest blow thine flatmates to tiny bits, in thy mercy."

And the Lord did grin, and the leaseholder did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu..
