Hey, my luck.
Lost my twin tip a few months back, I just found it advertised.
I know it's the board as I changed a few parts on it and asked for photos.
When I lost the board I made a cop report.
I now have the guys address, and am "picking" it up today.
Should I let the cops know? Or just ask for it back? Or use a crow bar and displace his knee caps?
From the sounds of his text messages the guy sounds super keen to move the board and discounted it 50% without asking!
By "lost" you mean:
A) you were out kiting and you fell off and couldnt find the board?
B) it was stolen?
Cause if it was A, Take around a couple of cartons as payment and thank the guy for finding your board, good karma all round.
Take the police report and any pics you have to show it actually was yours. ![]()
B) Call the cops to his address, kneecap the ****, take your board, leave before the cops get there [}:)]
Same thing happened to me. Lost a board with no contact details on it and found it on ebay. I contacted the seller and they admited they had found it. I was happy, they were happy to do the right thing and I paid a bit to cover their listing fee.
They reckoned if it had been given to the cops nothing would have ever happend to it. I overlooked the fact they could have tried a bit harder... I would't assume malice when stupidity will suffice .. or something like that.
Now if they found it in the back of your car... then thats a different story!
I would definitely call the Police to attend with you.
Firstly these things can go bad, what if it ends up in a fight and he wins convincingly but claims you started it? Etc etc
Secondly he may just be a finder, but what if he is also a thief and has heaps of other stuff? Coppers may investigate and make a lot of other people happy when they get their gear back too. Or they already know he is dodgy and this is the one little bit of info they need to nail him.
If you go around and thump him the Police will find you quicker than you found your board. It's not hard to track back through phone numbers/text messages.
Either play nice and knock on his door and explain the situation (and take some proof), or leave it up to the Fuzz to sort out. Just don't expect them to rush around there with lights and sirens ten minutes after you call them as recovering a lost board will be way down the list of priorities, as some others have posted on here in the past they will go and knock on his door but it never seems quick enough.
Send him the link of when you lost it if you posted it on seabreese and askhim could you have it back for a carton or 2
And a thread created re the same topic a while back resulted in a lost board found in posssession of a priest after being advertised on Gumtree. So you don't really know who you are dealing with... That thread had the same threats re breaking legs etc, but it was all an innocent mistake.
Don't forget only us Seabreeze nutters know the best place to look/advertise lost gear is on Seabreeze.
Good luck, you've only described it as lost rather than stolen so I think your approach will get you a win.
Yes I still believe that people are good
He deserves the benefit of the doubt..
While you are there see if he has a cheap kite ( I am looking for one )
Just kidding.
....Good luck.
Not really related, but i sold two nice lounge chairs to neighbour 15 years back for $60. He said he will pick them up now from my front porch and pay later in the afternoon after he goes to the bank.
Believed he was a bit dodgy so i refused till i had the money in my hand, but he twisted my arm.
Next day still no money,he said he put $50 under my front door!
Then when i told him we agreed the price was $60 and not $50,he did pay me $10.
Came very close to stealing and dumping his portable bbq for revenge when he was out,but not worth it.
Then there was the time i caught another windsurfer red handed stealing my universal joint.
Quite a few years back A friend of mine had his gear stolen from his car. The board turned up at the beach a few weeks later. He rang the cops straight away and they rocked up and took it back. The girl with the board said she had purchased it from CC and should have known it was stolen because they were selling it as a snow board. The cops helped her get the money back from CC as they obviously had not done a thorough check of ownership.
Hey guys. Time for an update.
The great news is I have my board in my possession 3 months after loosing it, the condition is exactly the same as the day I lost it. ![]()
To cut a long story short, I found the add on gumtree. I simply gave the guy a text saying I was a beginner and looking for a good flat water board.
He said it was a top of the range board and the best one in the shop, he then sent me a text saying he was happy to drop it to 270. I didn't even ask for a discount. Suspect much??
I asked for a few pics as I new my board had cardboard pads and fins, he sent them across in about 2min.... That was my positive identification.
I said the board looks good and can I grab your address and pick it off you tonight when I fly back into Perth? He response was, I'll get my dad to give it to you...
Before I flew back to Perth, I called him and told him it was my board, ect.
He then told me straight out over the phone( I beleive him) that it was his mates board, and this mate dented his car by accident and as payment gave him the board.
I said he should have a word with his mate, that's pretty dodge thing to do.
He then told his old man thr full story and I picked thr board up tonight. Very happy, oh and yes, I gave him a carton of James Boags Premium.
Nice work explaining it to him, then believing his side and still coughing up the carton. Good karma to the both of you. ![]()
And I wasn't joking about the priest with the board earlier, poor bloke was on his way to church when he got the knock on the front door. He obviously returned the board when it was explained to him (No he wasn't responsible - but I can't remember how he got it). The lost/stolen board was discussed at length on this forum with all the childish threats about bodily harm but the detail about the guy being a priest was never posted, been long enough now all parties are anonymous and it's worth sharing as a giggle. ![]()
Yeah would have been 6 weeks old when i lost it. The pic was taken last night.
I was a tad dissapointed he was willing to sell my baby for only $270 dollars
