Freedom of speech is defined by wikipedia as
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation, or both.
People are under the impression that because there is censorship on here that freedom of speech is being denied. This is accompanied by some sort of view that things are getting worse and that we're only six months away from totalitarianism.
In 1950, if you believed that aliens lived in your village, you could write to the local paper and they wouldn't publish your story. You could go to the local pub and tell everyone. They would move away from you. Eventually you would be barred if you continually butted into conversations with your alien opinions.
It seems most people on here would like to be able to go somewhere, kind of like their local pub, where they have the ability to move away and where people can be barred (not exiled, or thrown in prison, just asked to go somewhere else).
Nowadays, you can get a global audience through your own website. But still no one cares, but somehow the fact that no-one wants to listen is regarded as censorship rather than just not wanting to listen.
Calling out "censorship" when it isn't, risks crying wolf and meaning that no-one listens when it genuinely is.
If Laurie deletes your posts because they're rubbish, it is not censorship, it is a considerate barman getting rid of annoying patron.
