Looking at gettin a go pro camera for an every day simple to use camera down the beach and out riding. Just looking for peoples opinions on whether they are worth it or if there is better options out there for making lil videos and taking the odd photo?

Do you want to use it as a POV cam, IE attach it to your bike, head, whatever? If so then you can't really beat a GoPro, it's still the best of the bunch in my opinion.

However if you just plan to just carry it with you riding/to the beach etc just get a shockproof/waterproof point and shoot; the Panasonic ones are the goods. They take much better photos are are arguably far more versatile than a GoPro or equivalent.

GoPros are not suitable for use as a normal point and shoot camera. They don't have a range finder or LCD screen as standard and its not designed to be hand held as its so small.

GoPros are designed to do a specialised form of photography and they do it very well.
