Oh Yeah ![]()
The young guns came to the fore.
Best finish to a rugby match in ages.
The scrums aren't a disgrace - it's the refs (nearly all) handling of them that is.
That was the only minor (?) blemish on a top game - I'll bet the nth hemisphere teams are quietly sh1tting themselves ![]()
Dead right on those scrums, referee was all awash. Not biased just incompetent.
Brilliant finish! Robbie Deans must be feeling very relieved!
Scrums have been crap in most matches since the four step rule was introduced.
For those who spent their lives timing their first hit on 'crouch, hold...engage' this extra pause has led to so many infringements. Even the refs don't police it consistently.
My son who is 16 and spent the last 10 years in the piggies is confused and it's 4 years since the new rule was introduced.
I was lucky to play in the backs where I got to laugh at all the stupid things the forwards did!!
Get rid of the rule I reckon.
Wallabies beware..... a win in Hong Kong a world cup does not make.
My prediction......AllBlacks V SA with France being the surprise package!
It is a schamozzle. I played in the front row, hooker, for a while. It is obvious that the bloody refs are just guessing at what is going on. Trouble is everyone is so bloody paranoid that a neck is going to get broken. If you ask me it is more likely with the current indecision.
I never make predicitions on football. I support the Wallabies and anyone playing England. I was a Bok supporter but they let me down one too many times!!
i went to a rugby match---once---by accident, around 1985/86 i went to Olympic Park in Melbourne to watch Scotland train before they were to play the Socceroos in a World Cup qualiying match the next night.
trouble was there are two Olympic Park's in Melbourne situated next to each other and i went to the wrong one,was a bit surprised/offput they were asking $3 to watch training but then we are Scots.
when i got in to ground all i remember was seeing a maul, worse than watching paint dry actually,i stayed or a few minutes thinking i'll get my money's worth but not to be,went across the road, met a few fellow jocks and got to speak to Alex[arrogant] Ferguson.
watching Real Madrid play on ESPN, now that's more beautiful than watching the game they play in heaven.
Instead of teh northern hemi teams crapping themselves they have turned this touring Wallaby side into a laughing stock.
Smashed by England and more importantly humiliated this morning by Munster.
Wipe those tears wallaby team. There is no shame in being beaten by a club side. Some good Kiwi and Aussie teams have been beaten by Munster too. You never stood a chance.
;-)
JB
Mate, if you want to know about ups and downs you should have tried supporting Ireland over teh last 30 years. Doesnt even matter what sport. We can beat or come close to beating any top team, but then will lose against the Faroe Islands!!! WTF
It has been character building being an Irish supporter.
I doubt Ireland will be so lucky against the ABs on the weekend ;-(
JB
I think the SMH sumed it up nicely the other day "From champs to chumps" and that was before this mornings game!
Ummm and it was hardly a full stength Munster side either. Don't blame the coach for the last 2 defeats - its hardly his fault. About time a few of the players started taking responsibility and holding their heads in shame for the public flogging they deserve.
That wasn't the England team on Saturday that beat the Wannabies -- that was the All Black "B" side. The English did NOT play northern hemisphere rugby! That was good Tri-Nations rugby from one side anyway. ![]()
The new black shirts were the give away. The Poms want to play like the best so they are even going to dress like the best.![]()
This has been coming to Australian rugby for a long time.
The emphasis on stealing league stars and paying them big $$$, and NOT spending money on junior development, is coming back to haunt managment
Time to start imitating league, AFL and cricket.
Spend money on future talent!
^ I do not think there has been an emphasis as such on nicking league players. After all it is only a handful that have come over. Unfortunatley they were high profile players and in my opinion Lote was the only one worth the effort. We all know what happened to him, shafted by John Stabber Oneil.
The reason they nicked them was because they could and it was payback for all the thefts over the years when rugby was amateur.
In my opinion Aussie rugby is plagued by politics. Run by highbrow ex public school boys all running around in circles shafting one another and unable to keep their eyes on the ball.
If you take the player base into consideration the Wallabies do remarkably well especially competing against South Africa and NZ where it is virtually the only code played.
They are still bloody dissapointing at times and there a re a few big heads that think their talent matches their pay packets.
And yes pommie rugby does have an awful lot of imports, but that seems to apply to everything they play there.
All the league converts sucked the $$$ from the salary pool. Money that could have been spent developing the talents of some young talented backs.
Time to spend some of the enormous amount of money on young players, local clubs and encouraging kids into the game.
I coached junior rugby for 7 years. It was always a struggle to get kids away from afl, league and soccer. There's no tackling until under 9's ffs!!! League kids tackle from U6's. Then, when we most need them, colts age players are tempted away to league because there's incentives to play.
Time to boot the union hierarchy and get some new blood.
^ Problem is it is all about results now. Look how long coaches last. Any long term plans are only ever going to be given lip service. I sometimes think that it was better when it was amateur, only the Springboks were all paid one way and another from way back.
