On the 5 of January 2013 I went to st kilda Beach for a much needed kite fix, it was the first time I have flown this beach and I was pumped to see so many junkies in the one spot. I was getting used to the conditions and the traffic ,in cairns we have a lot more space.i started pushing my limits as usual , a couple of hangs and rolls blood was pumping around until one of my landings was a bit off. **** me that hurt I was in a spot of bother , I couldn't breeth I was howling my ribs felt like they broke in two.thank you to the fella who wipe out and noticed I was in trouble , THANKYOU. I spent the night in hospital I will recover , it was nice to smile about the awesome session finally when the morphine kick in
Cheers AIR MANGO

Welcome to the kiting clan .

Sh!t happens to anyone doing anything, and you never know when it's going to happen to you.

Lay low, take protein and amino acid shakes, 6-8 weeks come back give it another shot.

I've been kiting for 9 years, ~10 weeks ago equipment failure resulted in me falling from ~12m on to water... cracked a rib with costochondral separation, got back in to it 6 weeks later, it hurt so I changed my style (less air, more distance).

I spent the night in emergency too, I didn't go with morphine cos that can make you feel nauseous.

All the best.

What sort of failure, is it something we can all do and prevent this from happening?

To be honest I don't know... I was high up in the air, right at the apex the bar explodes away from me... I fall.

After a couple days I had a look at the bar and the chicken loop was still a loop but could be pulled apart... so I guess the safety released.

I don't know how I could have prevented it.

But from experience I can tell you if any load bearing line looks like it may need changing soon, it needs changing immediately.

Hey fly
Thanks for your reply bud, all my scan results for rib damage came up clear thank ****, I'm a fairly new kilter compared to your innings and I wish I had of started kiting 20 years ago.i hope your life is completely engulfed by the kite still after nine years and going off what people tell me the addiction just gets worse . Anyway I'll rest for few days and see what happens but at least now I have some morphine tablets in my bag so if I break another rib I won't have to go home so early when the wind is ****ing howling woooooo hoooooooo.
