Not just Perth either.

It took me less than 2 mins to drive to work this morn...should really walk the 1km, but need my vehicle for site visits. I live in a small coastal city...traffic is 10 cars at the lights during school pickup/dropoff times or waiting for 2 cars at a roundabout!

For the first time in 14 years, I don't own a car right now.

It's 1.9km from the apartment to the office. Some days I cycle, some days I walk.

Some days I catch a train to the airport and fly out to a mine at the back of beyond for days on end.

So, Tightlines, any insight into the cause of the problem? Whenever the trains in Perth break down I think of the stories you've told me.

Haha. Ditto for me. Cars are the most expensive, depreciating asset anyone can own and I don't think most people even realise that. For example an average $30K car will cost you *at least* $200/week to own by the time you factor in depreciation, insurance, registration, repairs, maintenance and fuel. I've done the maths, and it's easier, better and cheaper to live closer to the city.

IMO it's cheaper (and much more relaxing) to live far away from any city!

Crazy for me it took an hour and 15 minutes form Mindarie to Warrick road. After that it opened up. There was a crash in the Rail line. A smaller rail truck (on the rail line) back ended a larger rail truck. Also on track.

Totalled it.

The traffic was so slow i had to stop and have a piss even All that with a boat in tow

I should say not my image, borrowed from FB...

Just envisage the OH&S saga with this little issue, bozo's will come up with all sorts of requirements to operate these now, like you have to be a loco driver to operate...blah blah blah and add about 5 tonne in external steel work just in case... blah blah blah.
When all they really need is a collision avoidance system installed on all units.

Couldn't believe it when I drove past that this morning. Wood ducks.
You'd wanna hope there was no-one in that cab.

well as you are contributing to the perpetuation of urban sprawl and all the fun that comes with it, I cant say I feel sorrow for you at all.

Late trains is such a west problem.

I cycle - rain hail or shine i ride in. There is nothing like cycling at 40+km/h with a tail wind down the freeway with the river coming over the bike path and soaking you.

Going the other way is a different story however. :-/

Good point. I have had to rent cars to go kiting since I sold mine.

Am in the market for one again now too.

It was a nice change, went for 2 months without one, but not sustainable.

I can spend hour and ten minutes getting From Scarborough to Northbridge by public transport. Another 2 kilometers of walking.

Drive: 30 minutes

Bicycle: 35 minutes (I'm pretty quick on the bike)

A few years ago I thought I would nip up to two rocks for a surf after work. Couldn't believe the traffic, never tried again.
