People complain about the gov not doing enough to stop the boat people.

OK, hypothetically.... the refugee... fleeing to a new nation...
A favorite buddy of mine (Ash - born in Iran, of distinct middle eastern appearance, a great bloke, and a cool but thick accent) lives in Potts Point Sydney, and his cousin is 19 years old, and living in Mashhad, Iran, near the Afghanistan border.
She is hot, and I've seen photos (I'm talking about the 19 year old cousin). Her parents arranged her marriage when she was 14, and she married the ugliest bastard in town, who drinks home brew whiskey, swears like a trooper, has missing teeth, and gets angry on the turps, and gives her a punch-up about twice per month. The relationship is fully strained, she refuses to have his children, and hates sleeping with him. He forces himself on her, and she pretty much just has to oblige. She gets back yard abortions every now and then... She wants out.
She likes another boy in the town, and he likes her. But she knows she must not do anything about it, because she will bring shame on her family, and she will be at great risk of being killed, if they every found out.
She wants a better life, and wants to leave Iran... She's lucky that her cousin in Sydney has excess coin, and he is arranging for her to get out. She's lucky she doesn't need to catch "the boat".

But - quote the UN agreements of refugees asylum seekers all you like, I wonder why:
(1) when Vietnam was pretty much evacuated due to the war, those who arrived were mostly women and kids and oldies. An ex-g/f of mine came here with just her and her mum, and her dad stayed. They finally saw him 25yrs later. That is guts - think about not seeing your wife an kid for 25yrs 
because you sent them off for their better life.
Why are the arrivals here in the last few years predominantly males in the 18 - 30 age group?
(2) why the hell would you travel through a number of safe countries, at least one of which is religiously aligned with your beliefs (Indo), yet still risk the expensive and very dangerous journey to Australia?
That alone suggests to me that they are not happy to be 'safe' they want all the monetary benefits that comes with a western country like Oz.
I don't mind who comes into the country as long tax dollars aren't used to support them. Get a job, pay your taxes and buy things like everyone else.
Why not look at the immigration of these people under a different light?.
We see reports and costings of million$$$ spent housing and transporting these individuals. Why not see this as money well spent?, eventually these people will contribute to the Aussie economy. If we look at the immigration on a worldwide scale then can we not see a global 'integration' of communities?. Like it or not it is happening and maybe it is part of human evolution.
Sure there are going to be a lot of problems for a long time, but eventually(im talking a number of generations) this will cease. With the growing global population, we need to learn to accomodate our 'foreign friends'. These people need the protection of a more humane and stable governing body(which the Aussie government really is) to be able to establish a foundation for future generations.
i cant really hear anyone complaining over tong abbott, all he does is blame the ginja ninja for this and that and never even says what he'd do, (his flueroscent safety vests and massive ears are very distracting)
I'd send them back straight away if they had no paperwork, like the Americans do with the mexicans,
we could build a giant catapult on christmas island, would be the cheapest most cost effective way, once they hit indonesian air space their no longer our problem, the catcopter may also work, would just have to figure something out

I would set up a competition. Match every asylum seeker with a genuine "ozzie" select from a pool of talent at centrelink. Both contestants are supplied with 3 months of 'basic' housing and a crash course in "employment" and English language communication skills.
At the end of the year the there is a test - the 3 categories are
1. amount of tax paid minus any government subsidies
2. any criminal activity (counts as a negative)
3. an English language test
The loser gets deported.
So every seabreazer red thumbs poor old fingerbone but ya still have to comment.
If a post gets more than 200 reads or 10 reply's it should be instantly be maxed to the greener side of things. Sheep!!!
Dunno , but if MY COUNTRY (thats just how I feel) was as f--ked up as what they are saying theirs is , I would fight like the last man alive to try to rectify the situation. If that meant getting into politics, standing up for my rights or going on a rampage to KILL people like the Taliban (if that sort of situation arose) to free MY family from the ****e that is happening I would , and know most around me would do the same!!!!![}:)]

4 of my closest friends are recent immigrants , followed the correct protocol struggled with it but got through in the end(well in 4 mths they will find out, but looks good) .they didn't LOSE their ID , why do all the boat people?
Going to be no winners with boat people
Neither side of politics has a good solution
Besides this has been happening for hundreds of years ( violence of the worst kind) in their country ,

My mum was a 10 quid POM immigrant in the 60s.
Lucky for her she was snow white and Oz (openly) had a welcome all UK honkies policy.
Mum's large, whinging, (sometimes) racist family and were put on a luxury liner and brought here, at great expense, to help boost whities in a white bread country.
Had my mum come from a background where they worshipped some other religious nuttery (just my 2c on that stuff), had they all been swarthy skinned, been sporting beards and/or had hard to pronounce names.. well I guess they would have had a very different experience of how welcoming Oz can be.. depending on how you look/sound/worship.
I am still stunned at how backward and selfish we are in this country today when it comes to a trickle of largely genuine asylum seekers that arrive. Especially so when you look at how we opened the door to the Vietnamese after meddling in their internal conflict in the name of 'democracy'.
Just how is it we have become so ignorant, selfish and xenophobic +30 yrs later?
Maybe people read beyond the headlines then? Maybe we didn't think we were a nation that sh@t chocolate then? Maybe we were a kinder, more accepting nation then?
Not sure, but people that continue to use (deliberately) misleading and enflaming language, with obvious racist undertones, should be pushed back out to sea on the boats that arrive IMO.
We don't need those that won't accept others in this country so take your "We're full - fk orf" stickers and your racist mates and fk orf yaself.[}:)]
This country would be better without the likes of people who feed dumb-arsed redknecks like Alan Jones, Cassa and fingerbone if you ask me.
We are lucky enough to live in a democracy and no-one is goin broke by pandering to the ignorant and selfish that's for sure Alan Jones and co.

Not all that well written but a great read all the same. Worth a gander no matter what your views on immigration and/or asylum issues.
Thank gawd we welcomed people like Anh Do into the country is all I can say.
Cassa, anyone who stands there, in this country, criticising another human being for investing their life savings in a desperate and dangerous escape from one of the most dangerous areas on earth, or for leaving their country of birth when that country's leaders persecute/rape/kill them.. well they are talking themselves up and peforming bum ventriliquism I reckon.
Get ya hand off it fellas. If your family was persecuted, your life and freedoms dominated in every respect, or your daughter in danger of being raped - you'd most likely be off like shot.
