Hi Guys..
Any info on what works and what does not, would be appreciated.
But obviously I am wanting to buy a detector that works..![]()
No Flaming please...!
Cheers![]()
Jeepers Gyps, I havnt used one for ages. As soon as I got cruise control I felt that I didnt need it any more.
Uniden used to make good ones, but I recon cruise is better and cheaper option.
What car do you have?
Most modern cars have a thing called "Cruise Control" if you set it to the speed limit you don't need a radar detector. It seems to me when I negotiate a certain high way at night .....(a high way that is notorious for car crashes and deaths.........
people that use this highway have not learnt how to use cruise control or are just complete losers with no respect for others, themselves and family's as I get continuously overtaken even nearing bends!
The short of it is mate that if you want to avoid speed cameras it means that you want to speed which means that you may shorten your life or somebody else's!
There illegal in nsw and the fines are massive for having them. Most of the time they will go off for every automatic door u drive past. (super annoying)
Your best off buying a slower car and trying to stick to the limit or a reasonable speed otherwise you will end up like myself on a good behaviour bond for two years which is restrictive as all ****kk
. . . . this is an in depth topic. . . i'll try and be brief
I used to work in the industry - installation of Laser shifters and hard wired multi head detectors
i don't know about other states but in wa it is 90% laser in perth metro with the exception of some fixed old style radar units on traffic specific cop cars
with just a detector and not a shifter you simply do not have the warning time to react to a laser signal the old radar system used to give you heaps of warning sorry
on top of that all of the new cruise control additions like blind spot watching and distance to vehicles ahead all run on the same bandwidth as laser speed detectors so there are lots more ghost warnings and as more new cars hit the roads this will only increase
that said as of december 2012 even with firmware updates none of the current top of the line detectors were even picking up the brand new blue hand held police lasers (the ones that also take photo's) just the multinovas(poliscan)
this may have changed in the past two months
if you use it mostly outside the metro area there are all the old multinovas (radar) still in use and detectors would save your arse
the best ones we sold were the bel sti in various editions
the company has good support and you can keep updating them as new guns are brought in to use
that aside jamming is the way to go although costly it is legal in WA as long as its called something else (like shifting or parking sensors)
Tbh, I dont think that its a concious decision to speed, Im shocking for not checking my speed and it creeps up on me. I dont think Gyps is trying to break speed records or anything but I found the creep happens on long drives and you are concentrating on whats ahead eg roos etc.
it's not that hard nowadays seeing as it's either a van with a f$ckoff massive square window on the back or a x-trail . Either way it's bleeding obvious
Who'd wanna live in victoria. Airport to Benalla used to pass 10+ fixed speed cameras and another 10 or more if flying out of weribee. Mostly on the back of overhanging speed signs. No warning. 2kmhs over qualifies.
That wasn't enough, now they do this too
Hi Gypsydrifter,
Used to sell radars in the uk and the best ones were the Beltronics detectors, not sure what camera's etc are used over here but I am sure bel will cover it. There are some ****e products out, so be careful. To make sure you are covered you will also need a "garage door opener" aka a jammer. (The work on 904nm which is what the laser guns the police use.)
The bel disty is www.neltronics.com.au/
For a jammer blinder are good www.blinder.com.au/
Or a system from www.target-automotive.nl/en/laser-target-lasertrack/ would be a good option. (This mob used to do a jammer for a bike - note sure if they still do)
Some people used to purchase one detector and two jammers (front and rear).
Oh come on Dave, what a beat-up. That is a garden variety video camera and a spotter with bino's, it is very obviously surveillance for somethign else.
I disagree with use of Mulatnova's etc but they were brought in to reduce man-hours and increase speeders detected. So to put 2 blokes watching up there I don't think it is run of the mill traffic policing, yah?
Maybe the w^nkers who feel the need to assault the camera operator cos they got a ticket for 20k's over?
Gyps, hook line and sinker
does anyone believ they do that to catch speeders??? ![]()
I know Mark, it is literally unbelievable. But true. ![]()
DISGUISED police hiding in bushes behind camouflage nets are using radar guns to nab hundreds of speeding Victorians.
And the Herald Sun has discovered they are planning to secretly aim their radars at thousands more motorists this year.
Victoria Police makes no apologies for the sneaky tactic and yesterday vowed to continue the blitzes.

I like this bit though. Viccos are pretty angry about it by the sound.![]()
A person armed with a spray can has painted a pig's head next to the word "cops" and an arrow pointing to the exact spot where police hide with their radar guns on the Black Spur section of the Maroondah Highway.
Pigs' heads and large dollar signs have also been sprayed as warning signs on both sides of the road just before the concealed speed trap.
I live on a semi busy urban street here in WA. the speed limit is 50 Km due to built up area status. lots of families, kids etc going for walks, playing in the front yard etc. just the usual stuff that people do.
however, some, not all, inconsiderate drivers think my street is a racing track and are clearly oblivious to the potential danger to pedestrians, other drivers and themselves.
A quick call to the local member of parliament resulted in a 7 day blitz on speeding. after that send days, a mult-inova every noew and then. We have noticed a considerable slowing down of cars down the street.
Some people have zero regard for others and it shts me.
if you speed, you deserve to get caught. Cruise control or even just good old personal control such as a brake etc.
Dusta,
I'll grab some pics over the weekend of their usual haunts up near me (alkimos / mindarie).
You seriously have no idea they are there.
I understand where you are coming from AJ. The way I look at it, apart from a safety perspective, is - why give them my hard earned cash if I just have to slow down and be aware of the speed limits. also, as a one income family, I really cant afford speeding fines so I am extra careful.
Be aware that this is just my view but I feel it is a sensible one.
You could always consider a speeding fine one of the few voluntary taxes. Even if you argue that it is purely revenue raising and has no benefit to road trauma, don't speed, don't pay. Doesn't get any easier.

are these spots that hidden that you can't find em MDSXR6T ???? ![]()
