Just venting here, but people who sit in the right hand lane really PMO!![]()
I don't drive to the city too much these days and thank christ.
If i had to commute every day i'd pop a blood vessel.
Perth drivers seem to get annoyed about so much. Don't come over and drive in Sydney. Compared to Sydney, driving in Perth and surrounds is like driving in a sleepy country town.
I'm thankful I walk to work, live very close to a big train station and a large shopping centre. So when I drive its usually going somewhere where I want go, rather than having to go.
I've been in Perth about 2 months now. After living in 3 other states and driving all up and down the east coast numerous times, I can honestly say Perth has the worst drivers in the country I have come across. Within my first few days here I witnessed 2 near misses and in the first month had one myself when some "infurating person" decided they had had enough of waiting to turn right across Stirling Hwy and almost got t-boned. Thankyou Toyota for the ABS in my van! There is no point using the freeway either, everyone drives 10km/h below the limit anyway, as you say in the right hand lane..
My Dad reckons Perth has the worst drivers because every second driver you see is either from Sudan,West Africa or some other country where you don't have to pass a written test to get a drivers licence![]()
i have driven in uk, eu, asia and perth(edit; big deal)
Perth driveing and behaviour is out there, borderline retarded
After being here for 14 years, still blows me away that people block junctions, drive 1cm off your arse and generaly just dont give a f about anyone else, if the eu was like that it would be gridlock every day
Hmmm i cant believe i just had that rant, oh well

edit i just realised i am pretty pissed, bye for now
Had some eejit driving right up my clacker the whole way along Thomas Rd the other night. Only the two of us cars the whole way and I drove the whole stretch maybe 5-10mins above the speed limit up to about 100 in a 90zone and they kept with me.
Anyway, finally turn off onto Tonkin highway where the clown overtakes me and about 500m down the road turns on his kn lights and siren and pulls over another car for a very stupid manouvre. Was an undercover cop car!
Couldn't believe it. Still can't figure out wtf he was doing and why I didn't get a speeding ticket. Waiting/trying to push me into the demerit points zone? Off duty? Too lazy to pull me over?
ha ha im with you gibbo. i started driving trucks for a living when i was nineteen in 1994 in perth and this year just went nah... cant do it any more. now i do a couple of overnighters a week to albany just to get out of the traffic and possibly the worst road system around. and the view of the stirling ranges at half five in the morning is quite pleasant. ![]()
Have to agree, there's very little courtesy on WA roads, most drivers are only thinking of themselves, (if at all).
I've got a theory it all starts with the driving schools, I saw one the other day that said it all, forget the exact name, but it was something about passing the driving test easily.
I think the concentration is on passing the test, and learning the rules. Forget about learning to think for yourself, anticipating what other traffic is likely to do, and doing your best to help your fellow drivers and the traffic flow.
Wow so much hatred for WA drivers.
I remember the first time I went to WA in 1997/98. What struck me on the roads was how friendly drivers were.
People waved to you when driving on the road. The only other places I've experienced that is in western NSW, western Queensland and from the place I grew up and knew people.
Last time I was there in 2008 I was driving around a fair bit to fill in the days. Again I found the drivers there to be okay. The traffic was light. It was quite amazing to drive around the CBD on a weekday and not see very much traffic at all. Very little aggression or aggro. Completely different to driving around Sydney.
At least in Sydney we don't seem to be plagued by the car break ins that seem to be so common around Perth.
Don't even get me started about fugwits who sit in the RH lane. ![]()
Then there all the knobs who can't merge. ![]()
My old man made my brother and I do an advanced driving course before we were allowed to get cars...
The thing that still sticks with me was when the inductor made us all walk a kilometre along the track and time it, then told us there is never any excuse for speeding cause even at the slowest speed limit, it's still faster than walking
Here is a little annoying tip for those who hate tailgaters. [}:)]
Do what I do, and I use my cruise control as much as practical, to ensure I am at the XYZ speed limit.
Tailgater hangs onto your rear like its live or die if they drop back. Just hit your cruise down a tap which in most cases drops the speed down 2k's each tap. Keep this up until you wash off say 10kph Then crank back up to correct speed rapidly, ol tailgate, goes like the clappers to catch up, soon as he does, repeat same. Pisses them right off after a few runs like this. Even more fun if you can time it so as you drop speed the on coming traffic makes it too difficult for them to pass. Then as you spot a break in the oncoming, speed up rapidly so they cant round you up, soon as the traffic builds and they cant pass, slow down again. [}:)][}:)]
I heard a great scenario last week from one of my grand kids. They reckon tailgaters are nervous little people who a frightened to be alone![]()
Well from my experience, Western Australians are generally rednecks anyway so its hardly surprising that they drive like rednecks.
I love the people who drive on the right lane because in 8 Km they are going to turn right.
They used to PMO (like thepirate said) but I love that they free one whole lane for normal people who are not scared of changing lane.
Another one I can understand are motorbikes who stay in the traffic and don't go all the way to the traffic light. WHAT IS THE POINT THEN ! Much better to stay blocked in your car with nice music, heater or Aircond...
Perth must have the worst police force then! where are the cops to book these people? if they are doing their job the dumb drivers will wake up sooner than later
Just overtake them in the red emergency lane.
then get in front and slow right down and they get over.
