My guess - they pay him peanuts to be the Stig. He writes (sorry that should be ghost writes) autobiography. Autobiography needs pre-release publicity so lets publish name of Stig in book. Wait for Top Gear producers to sue for breach of contract. Massive publicity for book. Book sells 20 more copies than the 3 originally projected. 
the stig is ......... probably now going to be sacked.
