It's the same all over Australia.

UK driving license: GBP 24 lasts 70 years.
Trailers don't need.
Boats don't need.

Same pretty much everywhere else too.

Drink some tap water, you'll feel better.

Im not sure thats right. A boat only needs to be licensed if its primary source of propulsion is a motor. I would have thought a Kayak would be exempt..

EDIT
Actually i just double checked, and the rule is the moment you put a motor (even electric) on a kayak it must be registered. That is just stupid

I think it goes so far as to say if it is 'capable' of being powered it needs a license, technically it not matter whether your kayak actually has an electric motor fitted or not. Though you would have to be an arse to enforce that law to the letter on a kayak or canoe.

Thats correct. If its primary power is to be a motor then it must be registered. SO if you have a dinghy and just want to row it too bad. It must be registered. A kayak though is powered by paddle, but stick a motor on and bingo, give them some more money..[}:)]

NT. no boat license, so no alchohol limit whilst driving boat.
Can drive car with beer in hand, so long as you are below limit (now .05 but was .08) and not within x distance of pub

it gets worse GD, in WA if it has an engine mount it must be registered for use in surveyed?waters but in order to register it you need to supply engine details including a serial number, which must be sighted to fill out the paperwork. so if your new kayak has a mount and you have no engine its gonna get hard.
I turned up for registration with a yamaha 6hp engine block only ,but since it had a serial number on they reluctently passed it

When HIN certificates first came out we couldn't complete a Hin registration with out a engine number. SO when i pointed out it didn't have a serial number or any motor But the law is it must be registered they soon changed the ruling

You cannot operate a vessel or vehicle while over 0.05 BAV in the NT, stated but perhaps not clearly enough in the safety reg's and guide. It is the same rule which means that you can get done for riding a pushbike while drunk or even a wheelchair, mob' scooter.

Mr Hodges who admitted consuming 10 large glasses of wine, recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.209.

He had "taken offence" at some police allegations particularly the categorisation of his scooter as a vehicle, saying "on this occasion, the wheelchair was my legs [and] as my legs, it was the only way I could get home".

Mr Hodges was disqualified from driving for 18 months and sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years.

I don't have time to find the relevent NT News stories but they're regular enough.

That all being said, you can most likely get away with it because there are so few water police BUT if you do get breathalysed while operate a vessel you will be charged, even like a bloke who was done while still at the ramp. However you can allow your 6year old to drive your unregistered 800hp big white boat while supervised. Ah the NT I luv it.

Now back to the OP. I feel for the rego/license hassles but try the same game when all your toys are in different states. Bring on the real federation and stop this state based rubbish.

All the license requirements just to start using the toys. Once you start using then comes the fines for not using them right.

I received a letter from the department of transport that as part of my mooring license I now have to pay a certified inspector to make sure the mooring is up to scratch. The crew at the DOT office must have shares with the listed contractors I reckon.

More cash out.

In NSW, any device with a motor must be registered for use on a road or road related area.
They are not permitted on footpaths, parks, public areas and roads etc. unless specifically exempt.
If your motorised pushy has an engine of more than 200 watts output- it is not exempt and will need to be licenced.
If it can do 80k's it will most likely not comply........

In W.A., power assist of more than 200 watts will require licencing, and riders must be at least 16 years old to use power assist.

I have heard on the grapevine, that the output is going to be raised to 250watts, no idea when though.

This makes me think...hmm
when we bought this home we had the option to buy the jetty that the guy from this house owned....
we didn't as the water (boat ramp) is 2 houses away and you can drop your boat in and drive the car trailer home

I wonder what that license would have cost me....as I really nearly bought the jetty

Not sure if you had a temporary lapse of sanity or insanity.

Could you have charged rent on the jetty if you bought it??
