Live animal export

pardon me for asking-but do you live in the big smoke?

be careful that you dont believe all the PETA tell you.
For example-PETA and other anti furtrade/anti meat groups managed to get the sale of possum skins stopped in NZ, now there is no reason for anyone to exterminate them but for fun. Consequently the numbers have exploded.
Like any radical group they only see one side of the story and their aim is to stop anyone eating ANY animals.

Vegan/vego nut jobs.

Abbatoirs here or anywhere are not pretty places.

Of course there are problems on some boats-but there is also live cattle export to Indonesia, only a shortish journey.

Simple economics. I live in a port town and we have live export. The ships are fitted with massive air-con units on each level and feed troughs. There are a few casualties during the trip, but not many (as it's reported). The hardest journey for the animals is the trucking to the feed-lots, where they're kept for a few weeks to adapt to the pellet feed.

A Vic 'animal lib/terrorist' broke into the feedlots here a couple of years back and put raw ham in the feed trays to stop the export trade...now I don't know much about animal lib, but I know that by feeding a herbivore raw meat will cause disease and can cause painful death to the animal. Personally, I think the farmers and exporters have more compassion and investment in the animal's well-being.
