Hi there,
Just been wondering around on Gumtree and found my board (95% sure it;s mine) that I've lost a couple of months ago ... any advices part from decking the C... down and bring my board home ?
There was my contact detail on it but easy to remove with acetone..
The ad has no name and no contact number just email the gumtree site for an answer ..
and finally a very low price "negociable"
Any advices ?
Cheers
I found my board on gumtree last year.
I left it at the beach one day.
Story goes- The bloke who found it, gave it to the seller because this mate crashed his car.
I contacted the guy, pretending I was a noob and asking alot of noob questions. I asked for some more pics and lowest price. The following pics confired it was my board- I had unique fins.
Once I had his details, name, address and pick up time, I informed him it was my board and Id be around to pick it up.
I picked it up from the old man, who was embarrased to say the least. The son was no where to be seen.
If you have any pre-theft photos, good enough to prove ownership- or receipts take them along- if its your board just say "thanks for looking after my board mate", pick it up and walk out with it- or call the police and stay there until they arrive.
probably best if you have mates [several big ones] there with you while you are waiting.

i was in a pretty similar situation
I Lost my board a few months ago and because i posted in the lost and found on seabreeze one of the members (mcbain - I still owe him a cold carton ) who was advertizing on gumtree "looking for a kitesurf board" got a call from someone trying to sell them my board.
he contacted me and gave me his phone number
long story short i made out that i was interested in buying the board and would come round asap
when i got there i explained it was my board and when where i lost it etc
he was happy to give it back. . (i also gave him a carton of beer )
i didn't get to plan B as that was not required
but i was going to advise him that salvage of the sea does not cover a kitesurf board due to size and classification (or so i've been told in the past does anybody know for sure? ) and if it was on land then it is theft by finding
. . . and then involve the police,
however my board is very distinctive so it would be easy to prove ownership if i had to
hope this helps at all
I had my van stolen in 2005 with all my gear in it.
Van turned up trashed 1 month later, by which time I had already replaced it.
(Insured)
4 years later some of my gear bobbed up on ebay. No doubt it was mine as it was a Green flow, KA I-max sail and a Z-boom.
ad said stuff like "Concept 2 windsurfer board comes with sales and poles"
I printed off the ad and showed it to a windsurfing mate of mine who was a cop. He advised me to contact the seller and ask what else it came with (because I lost a lot of stuff that wasn't listed in the ad)
I contacted him and asked if it came with any fins or any extras?
He responded with "yes, it comes with 7 fins, 2 more sets of poles and 3 more sails"
My mate, the cop, got a task force together (Piranha style) and went and got it back. The guy's story was dodgy as, but I was wrapped to get my stuff back, including harness, booties, mast bags extensions. Everything except wetsuits and golf clubs.
(I happily donated a slab to the constabulary)
Good luck with yours.
^^^One of those things I guess Carantoc where you could wear a leash and risk splitting your head open or just risk losing a board.
To me if you find a board with a name on it it's stealing.
In the end the board was taken off Gumtree before he could get it. I suppose even in a sleepy town like this you still have scum coming up on holiday and this one was from Rockingham area.
So if anyone bought an 2012 airush switch with cyclone fins and 2013 straps in the Rockingham area on gumtree it would be great to know where you got it from
