Hello folks,
I own 2 Ozone catalysts a 12m for the 13-18 windrange with lulls near 10 and gusts close to 25. An 8m for 25+ knots but it holds up in 15 knots and stays tame at 33knots. so the 8m is no problem. I feel I could get much more from my 12m than I do. I feel it is a tad gutless in less than 15 knots, no power whatsoever. I used to own a North Fuse (2010) that would keep pulling in the 10-12 knot range (although at its lower range).
I am starting to wonder if I should not bring the back lines in. Is there more to it than just changing the bar pressure and turning speed. And what about flying it with the shortest backlines setting in 80% of the time and make them longer only in higher winds. I keep reading everywhere that this kite has good low-end grunt...I don't think it is grunty at all and when flying at the edge of the window it barely pulls me around... Anyhow, there are not many tuning options and I feel I have a potential one kite quiver in my hands (12 to 26-27 knots) at 85kgs. I am just freeriding, don't need huge boosting but something to learn jumping on, I like the good drift for ski slalom towards the kite in the winter. Liek I could switch to toeside quite easily with the Fuse but the Cat seems to just die as soon as I switch.
Cheers
I am not an expert on kitesurfing but if you could take backpack filled with 30-50 kg weight of sand it should help to handle stronger winds in my opinion ![]()
or look into SCUBA DIVE section - they may have lead belts- with additional safety future such fast release when wind die.![]()
At 85kgs in a 10kt lull you aint going far anywhere with a 12m regardless of brand.
I weight 90kgs and I use my 17m for the windrange you are using your 12m.
I have Edge & zephyr and they both have back line adjusters at bar end. If you have them don't be afraid to use them, that's what they're there for. If it's really light, pull them in full, and full depower (let it out to stopper) on the cleat. You can always add a bit of depower back on the cleat if it's backstalling.
@kiteboy..Switched the thread to the KB forum...I hear ya...I have an edge 15m for the light stuff gets me going going good in 7-10 knots with a huge TT... My problem is 10 to 25 knots with an average around 15...good for a 12m but the lulls are killers and the 15 is not going out in gusts to 25...I should practice my golfing a bit and keep kitesurfing for the good days...Or put back together a windsurfing racing setup...
Transferred to another forum??
Who cares?
We haven't finished with our advice yet. ![]()
The best thing would be to gather it all up in the back yard,
buy a few drinks and sausages,
invite your friends around,
light up the barbeque,
and burn the lot. ![]()
I'm pretty sure that woud be an improvement. ![]()
Oh and I almost forgot.
Take lots of photos and post the best ones on the "The Funny images thread" ![]()
I could have actually moved it if you wanted, but since you've branched the spacetime continuum and I haven't got enough jiggawatts for the flux capacitor, I'll just leave it here until lightning strikes town hall.
OZONE CATALYST seems gutless
Yep, I know what you mean, totally gutless.
I'd suggest you get some guts and go windsurfing
Did you tried to tie strings of your gutless 12m thing with strings of 8m one ?
IMO if your run this two at same time you should have more bang from this two gutless creatures.![]()
or should be very easy for you to change direction if you pull strings of one kite then on another running in opposite direction.
I am not expert on kitesurfing .. how you could you call such maneuver pulling a gybe?![]()
actually I really enjoy that opportunity we could help a bit kitesurfers if they ask us for advice ![]()
OMG what should I do?
I just found a KITE hidden in my girlfriends panties drawer. Well, she is not my girlfriend yet, but any day now.
This is way worse than a couple of disco bikkies.
Anyway what should I do?
From what you've said there are two factors:
1. You could probably run your rear lines on the shorter knot.
2. The Catalyst is not intended to have pull-the-bar grunt like your fuse did (yes I have ridden the 2010 fuse so I know the feel). The Catalyst requires, and will reward, a lighter touch on the bar and more delicate edging rather than sheeting input. All of this will make you a better kiter - more attuned to kite and board - and you'll find you can position the kite more precisely in the window which will help as you progress to powered tricks.
Gênez you should all go to jail for trying to choke me with my breakfast...i do have a sailboard, just have to dig it out of the shed...way too funny, keep them coming...Australian Windsurfers seem to spend as much time waiting for wind as their canadian counterpart...but all this experience in laying down your prose really paid off...
Cheers...All very funny. I hit OZ every 4-5 years, can't wait to run into some of you... Anyone in the DeeWhy area?
This was way more fun when it was in the wrong area, now he is getting serious, meaningful advice.
Down with mods. ![]()
