My computor malfunctioned and I desperatly need to access my emails .
I have another laptop, but obviously different email address. The one that died was running Vista. So it is windows Mail I need to access.
Any one have an answer?
Who is your internet provider?
If you go to their website there should be a link to 'mail'
Type your username in which is your email address
Type password in
For iinet its here
webmail.iinet.net.au/
Telstra (click on right hand side - webmail)
media.telstra.com.au/home.html
Post your email address, password, and provider here. I'll see that you get your mail... eventually ![]()
Seriously, more info required or no-one can help.
Ah Good old Australia Post .... why , back in my day we just set the dog loose on the old postie if he lost the mail![]()
Cassa I'm going out on a limb here and am presuming you are after emails you have received already? ...If that's the case and your PC did not have a malfunction but has crashed...there are ways and means of retrieving you emails "maybe" depends on your malfunction..
I feel I have given you about as much usefull info as you gave us..![]()

To the people above who suggest logging into the ISP's webmail system, that's all well and good... unless you set up your computer to use POP instead of IMAP.
If so, then you need to restore your computer if you want to retrieve your emails.
The easiest way would be to take your computer to a computer repair place, and get them to look at it.
Oh, and if you never want this to happen again, buy a Mac and an external hard disk, then turn on "Time Machine". Seriously it's the best backup solution ever. It really and truly works wonders.
Cassa - as mentioned U need to be a bit more specific..
Assume U need to pick up new mail. So U need to be able to open access to the same email as setup on the dead VISTA box (VB).
I would suggest U set up a second email on the laptop in the mail program.
There R 3 elements
1) your = Username/email and password
2) incoming server address : (as per VB)
3) Outgoing server (smpt) address : (as per Laptop)
Server address: i.e. something + domain details - something can be "mail" or "pop" or empty etc. eg. pop.netspace.net.au or mail.domain.com.
You will find the details on your ISP / Mail provider's web site.
Panda is on the money. Most email systems are:
i) A POP type email setup (in most instances) is a "go get msg from the mail box and remove the message" setup. So once you have downloaded it you (& the writer!!) have the only copy.
ii) An IMAP type setup is a "go get copy of msg from the mail box and leave the original" .
So POP relies on your back-up and system, IMAP relies on your mail provider's back-up and system.
I use mail review software on desktop and portable devices - so not limited to one system. I do download to one PC.
(For SOHO setup, I have a number of mail providers and numerous email address's i.e. not restricted to one email address (could not function
). To review and handle these I use MAILWASHER this gives me a heads up on content, sorts & filters, separates out known crap, and allows me to review and handle emails (keep or delete) before I download. There are a number of preview products on the market. I just happened to run into this years ago and like it. )
I would be surprised that current email products are only capable of handling one email address (willing to be surprised
).
If you are not comfortable handling bits from inside a PC & you want to retrieve your existing emails on the VB - follow nebbian's advice.
Otherwise it is fairly straightforward (nerdish comment
) to link to a HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and retrieve the data - but without another similar system to link it to best (timewise at least
) to get help.
Cheers

If you used Live Mail, which is like the old Outlook, then said files reside on your computer, in the old EML format. Under a directory of the like:
"C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\ISPNAMEHERE\Inbox" (there are a few variations here)
Can be retrieved or imported if your damage is anything but the disk.
If your damage is power supply, then the disk can be easily removed, put in 2nd computer, read-from, and EMLs imported. Done it before, not too difficult.
Of course this is last resort: ideally fix your computer, 'coz less handling then. Rare that both power supply and battery go at the same time. Try borrow a friend's PS that has the same code+format+voltage as yours who died. Just to really make sure it was the PS indeed. You may find one at work, for instance.
Going to a shop to retrieve files is the extreme bottom last resort in my experience and people around: unless a shop is super-honest and competent - one tall order, then it ends up costing lost of money to be told the disk couldn't be retrieved and you need to dish out more money, etc. Often by a kid who probably kites after hours too. ![]()
Good luck.
