Ok, need to get the frik outta Newcastle, I'm 40, I'm not married and have no kids, was thinking about Cairns, I have a bunch of cousins up there, but I reckon the heat and humidity would drive me crazy as well as be detrimental to all my sensitive electronic equipment I rely so much on for my work. Also been thinking about Perth, have family there too, but mainly older aunts and uncles I know well with a few cousins I don't really know around too.
Just wanting some opinions here, I'm an Architectural Draftsman with about three years experience, 1 year at a firm the other 2 working for myself on various homes around Newcastle and the Hunter and Lake Macquarie, about 46 happy families So I got the skills to pay the bills, I know job prospects are great in Perth at the moment and only going to get better, so its my best option so far, although I told my cousin in Cairns this morning I wanna go up there, I'm kinda having second thoughts coz of heat and humidity issues with my computer and photography equipment.
Im kinda in a quandary at what to do, Cairns or Perth? Its funny coz I haven't been on this forum for ages but when I did a goggle about Cairns a thread on seabreeze came up saying its crap for wind, I'm not really going for wind essentially, I need to get away from my toxic immediate family.
Seems there some good heads in this forum that could perhaps aid in my decision. I plan to sell all my stuff like fridge and washing machine and bed and furniture, and drive to wherever with a car full of clothes and computer and photography equipment.
I don't know what your pastimes are but if you are ocean inspired, Perth would be the place. There is surf, despite what people say and if you're into sailboarding or kiteboarding, the wind here is epic. (This is for Toots only so if anyone else is tempted to come to Perth for surf etc, there is nothing to see here, keep on moving, nothing to see).
As for Architectural Drafting, my son is doing it at TAFE and based on the number of ads, there is heaps of work.
So Toots a good place to come, everyone else, nothing to see, keep on moving.
Toots, my two cents, its a no brainer.
Cairns economy is dormant. The GFC has hit the area hard due to less tourists, which has impacted on housing prices. This in turn I am sure would have an effect on reno's (due the risk of your clients over capitilising in a poor market) and new housing.
As a guide we bought two units in Edge Hill 8 yrs ago - both would struggle to return 10% on purchase price in current climate.
Perth - lived there for 6 yrs in the 90's - havent got nough superlatives for the place![]()
Wow looks like a few people doubt there is a mining boom on with building happening and thus an architectural draftsman may get a job here?![]()
