Queensland doesn't have daylight savings. This means in SEQ dawn is around 4am in the middle of summer. Its horrible.
I just run my own daylight savings. It's fairly easy, set own clocks and declare to work/family etc that I'm on daylight savings time. ![]()
Just have to be careful when making appointments or doing business/shopping in the first/last hour of the day. Which is fine, those aren't times I want to be doing much outside of routine anyway.
And I shall call it... Mylight Savings
This could be the solution to our problem in WA, i would have to change my username to mydaylight savings.

It is just right if you live in Cairns. You need the mental latitude to think longitudinally. Just make sure you let the dairy cows know what is going on.
one is just a name. the other involves the small children in your house waking up at 4:15 every single morning instead of 5:15. not pleasant. ![]()
I have to ask....do you also celebrate festivus?
Not that I am aware of. What is it??
I've been doing this for years. In fact when applying for my current job I made it clear that I would be on daylight savings time in summer, or I wouldn't be employed by them ![]()
It works well ![]()
I do not get the whole "it affects the cows" thing. Just set your clocks forward with the rest of us, and do everything an hour later than you normally would.
If you're smart you can fool the cows into thinking nothing's changed. [face palm]

But if you do that some cows might figure out the conspiracy one day and go on the heavy weather forum...
Nothing does change for the cows. They just turn up at the same time every day regardless of whether you call it 4 o'clock or 5 o'clock. Smart cows.![]()

Well, at least the sheep won't figure it out!

Yup and I wish the pro-daylight saving crew would stop bringing it up.
Nobody ever said it would affect the cows, it is just elitist yuppie city dweller crap to dump on the country people who are against it.
Probably a farmer mentioned he'd still go to bed at 9pm as it was hot n light but had to get up at 0300 rather than 0400 to milk the cows.... and smart arses latched onto it.
In reality Qld and WA have always voted against it as those who live in the bush with no aircon don't really enjoy trying to get kids to bed at 7pm in 40deg and daylight,
to have to get up frazzled kids at 0500 for the bus ride to school 100km away.
But those who see it as an opportunity to walk near the river at sunset near their McMansion take any "no" vote as indicative of hillbillies. The fading the curtains p!sstake is equally likely to be
turned around into the "yes" vote means NOT fading the paint on the Lexus 4WD used to convey kids to school.
(BTW I voted for it as I get more seabreeze windsurfing in)
When its hot in summer, its hot. It doesn't matter if its 12 noon or 12 midnight. School kids get most of December and January off school anyway. So they are affected only a bit if at all.
Clearly the states that have an issue with daylight savings are the biggest states geographically. Its a good argument for considering breaking up these states so peoples' interests are better represented.
The fact of the matter is as time goes on representative democracy is less representative as the size and numbers become ever larger.

your example is backwards, dare I say much like the people who oppose DST
, the old farmer would be getting up at 5am to milk guys cows instead of 4 am as he does without DST
PS curtains work better for adults than kids and you can't block the birds dawn chorus that wakes the kids. you can install fans and air con for the old farmer to sleep
