they are the worst motors the've ever put in a 4wd. bad habit of dropping the bearing on No 1 piston due to a crap oil pump. cost to rebuild motor is similar to cost of car.![]()
bit gutless , not recommended for towing due to above..![]()
have 2 friends who regret the purchase.![]()
but other than that they are great.![]()
oh , and the deisel is woeful in sand![]()
Apparently the 3.0 is not quite the most reliable donk on the planet...
If you can find one, a 4.2 might have fewer probs:

had a 4.2deisel wagon and a coilspring tray back for work in the late 90's.
On a hot day,If we towed the work trailer on either one, you couldnt switch on the aircon or go over 90kph for more than 20mins.
the other vehicle was a Landcruiser PC, 4.2 deisel and could do 120kph with the trailer AND the the aircon, and overtake![]()
Try a 6.5 ltr diesel, I have one in an 80 series , I get 12.5ltrs per 100 ks towing a trailor with 250 + kgs in it. (got to do this for work)
So much low down power I am always the first one to leave the hard well worn tracks on the beach to let others stay on them cause it just doesnt matter.
Last trip to Cervantes was in the heat of the afternoon (about 40- 42c), I did something I never usually do and pushed real hard all the way , air-con on , overtook all, never got hot .
Tows a 6mtre boat fully loaded without being a slug , never last at the lights.
Cant wat to do the milage without towing , but its hard with work.
It has 260ltrs of diesel when full , havent been to the servo for 6 weeks!
Most dont believe the economy but, what the ...... Tis truely great![]()
