How do they always get it so wrong. Built by 2018, seating capacity 60000 maybe 70000, can't get a ticket now for the footy, a friend tried for hours to get us tickets to WCE/Geelong, no chance. With population increases and WCE winning another couple of flags before 2018 (heres hoping) the mug fan who can only get to 4-5 games a year (like most of us) will be in the same position. By 2018 the Eagles and Dockers membership will have all the seats covered as they do now. Might as well save the money, or give us all a big screen TV to watch the game at home as we will never be able to buy a ticket.

I agree - for the cost difference they should be aiming for 80,000 seats. They should also give consideration to acoustics - as it will be the natural choice for large outdoor concerts.

Who pays the bill?

If its the government then yes you should complain as there are more important things for the government to spend its money on than a fancy paddock for blokes to chase a ball around. If there are not more important things to spend money on then the tax payer should get some of their money back and then reduce taxes.

If its a business or club that spent the money then its their decision. If its the wrong decision they will face the consequences.

Cockburn is to my mind the best choice.
An opportunity to start again and make a big f.off stadium that will be suitable for many years to come.
Serviced by freeway, trains and more than one in and out road.

sorry for the poor Subbi council, they are going to lose 1/2 of the yearly revenue .... no more parking tickets will be issued on game days! What about all the parking inspectors loosing their jobs?????[}:)]
Any way why are we paying??? the AFL should fork at least 60% of the bill the rest to be divided between soccer, cricket and rugby!
The money could be used for hospital beds easing the cost of electricity. Creating water purification plants....... I could find 50 better uses in 2 minutes. Maybe it is going back to the Romans when the voters were unhappy give them the circus games, Is the new stadium going to be called The Barnettum Coliseum??

You're right, there is no way they would put anything that good South of the River. Having said that it would be the perfect place, cheaper land build it as big as you like and immediate access to the freeway and train line. Maybe after this Burswood Stadium sinks into the ground (being built on an unstable old rubbish tip) they will build a "real one" at Cockburn. Mind you Cockburn council could never have paid as much in backhanders as Packer and his Burswood Conglomerate.

Easy fix, move to Vic - nobody goes to watch WCE when they're playing here - a stadium full of empty seats!

Given the appetite for "news" wherever it is built is going to be controversial and will turn into a media picnic.

The current "stadium" (if you could call it that) is a joke and it beggars belief how the WA Footy Commission (owners of the two WA teams) and the other stakeholders (State Govt, Subi Council) have allowed it to get to the state that is currently in.

Subiaco Council have hardly been willing participants in the process and have pretty much done their level best to make it as difficult as they can for any big event to be held there.

Packer and Burswood will be laughing all the way to their bankers now that this decision has been made. A brand new stadium on their doorstep, paid for out of Federal and State money, with a little kicker from the AFL. Any contribution from the owners of Burswood will be for the covered walkway from the ground to the Casino - no more no less.

Will turn out like Football Park in SA, only now the main footy stadium in that state is going to be closer to the centre of Adelaide. And remind me what happened to the other great urban stadium Waverley Park.

Bad luck Subi, but you have had enough chances and they just ran out.

The new Adelaide city ground will be a nightmare, no parking, grid locked city for 2 hrs after the match, It happens now when the cricket and tennis finish up at about the same time absolute KAOS and that's on a summers night... add rain, cold wind and a crap public transport system that will be grid locked... fun for all then watch the attendance numbers fall.

If anyone is after AFL tickets... Port Power now give them out with Center Link payments.
The other day a guy had his car broken into, had 2 Power tickets on the seat when the owner got back to the car he found 4 Power tickets on the seat and a note "we don't want them either"

Love the Premier's timing - announced 2 days after a big survey shows 65% (or something) of people are against it

Oh well, when we are all at home dehrydrated thru lack of water, can't turn the aircon on due to power costs, whilst others die in hospital waiting areas.......at least we can watch games at the exorbitant stadium on the exorbitant national broadband network and be happy the Govt's had their priorites right.

There is already a train line there, the station just needs extending, maybe a couple of shunt lines so the northern and mandurah trains can back out

The "one" road is a freeway, and links to both the Kwinana and Mitchell as well as exits to the south east and perth city. seems to have all bases covered to me

Their building a ferry terminal, so finally we might get some long overdue use of the waterways, instead of a single ferry service from perth to south perth.

The waterfront strip between the railway bridge and the causeway would be an ideal location for a Melbourne Southbank type development as its relatively protected from the seabreeze.

There's more parking than you can poke a stick at, just over the freeway at Belmont park (a couple of footbridges will make access a breeze)

Seems like a perfect location to me!

I would never go if I had to pay! My boss has a corporate room and I take some of our customers there I alsoget invited to corporate boxes owned by some of the contractors we use..... Only way to enjoy footy, free booze food and lovely ladies serving it!

The idea is for the public to use the trains boat or to walk from the CBD, I am not a great fan of spending badly an enormous amont of tax payers money for a few to enjoy (60 000 people over a population of 1 200 000) but the location is optimal!

Nope not the right location. Soulless like windy hill was. Needs to be close to centre of city to be a part of the city. A poor location and an expensive location. AFL are crazy to support it
