I used to share your sentiment about flat water paddling, then last year decided to throw down a bit of a challenge to myself and paddle the 111km Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, funnily enough on the Hawkesbury just north of Sydney. Never before had I realised the potential of the Swan, but when you start paddling from Freo to Guildford as a training run you start to lookat the river in another light. I now train at least three times a week on the river and it keeps meout of trouble and out of the gym.
