Anyone living in Lancelin?
I have been approached by a Scout group based in Moora that are asking lots of questions about making a small fleet of landyachts. (between 6 to 10)
One of thier grandpoobahs spent a lot of time drooling over one of my Lefroy minis today- and it looks like the bug has bitten pretty hard.
If they go ahead, they will be needing a supply of old windsurfing sails, masts and booms.
The stuff I salvage and scrounge in Perth is pretty scarce, and what I find is barely enough to keep the Kalgoorlie or Esperance crews sailing.
Does much gear get damaged or retired in the Lancelin area?
Stephen.
Why are landyacht crews such a bunch of tight arses? Why don't they go out and buy some new equipment instead of always asking/begging for old gear? Seems like the supply of old gear is drying up and some of them will have to take the lock off their wallet.
It's a good way of taking all the old crap windsurfing sails out of the market. I think its better that the landyacht guys use them, instead of someone buying an old rig on ebay and not realising that they could get more modern equipment.
Maybe they should do a run in NSW and QLD, to get rid of the old stuff?
Ask on the kitesurfing forum -plenty of people there have some old windsurfing gear in the shed that they will never use again.
Sure its great for stuff to find a second life rather than throwing it on the tip. I've got no problem with that. However the landyacht crew seem to make it a point to never buy new equipment.
Is it a cultural issue, ie you will be laughed at if you turned up with a new sail on your landyacht, everything must be recycled? Whereas in windsurfing most people are a bit jealous when they see someone else a new board or sail.
I've got a couple of 140-190 booms you can have. Aluminium, both had two years of hard sailing and were retired because the grip was starting to come off and I figured that was a good sign that a new one might be a good idea. Pick up from Nedlands.
I was dropping some stuff off at balcatta tip and noticed they had heaps of old sails and booms in the recycle area.
In the speed stakes wind surfers have ripped off kites and land yachts have ripped off kite buggies.
Kites are about harnessing wind energy and sails are about modifying and maximising wind energy.
So unless this bull crap egotistical rivalry between kite and wind surfers is no more than ariel acrobatics, there is no argument.
So sorry to spoil your jeering party.
