I had a mate at the Goldie who popped his eye out with the point of his shortboard in 1994. It was 2 years before he could get back in the water.

That to me looks like a very good reason to avoid surfing, laurie! I did have a mate at work who almost lost his whole ear thanks to the fin on his board. Luckily for him they were able to sew it back on. I think I'll stick to sailing.
