I have an old 1983 Tarago that runs beautifully and fits all my gear in perfectly. The problem is the steering bell crank arm has developed a bit too much play in it and she gets wobbles after hitting bumps. I imagine the replacement part would only set me back $150 dollars or so if I could find it. I have tried wreckers, posted on gumtree and quokka several times. I have also posted on several internet sites that wreckers get notifications from and contacted several toyota dealerships.
It does not appear anyone has anything this old still hanging around. Does anyone in WA have any experience with getting parts fabricated? Is it ridiculously expensive?
I really don't want to send something to the tip because I could not find a $150 dollar part.
Tried JapWreck? (in O'connor and Kewdale from memory)
Pays to Google it and find out what the Jap model is called first cos they might have one from a Toyota "ABC" rather than a Tarago and some wreckers might not know it is an equivalent
There is also somethign called van parts WA or something but it is mostly commercials
It pays to purchase a car with "turn key reliability" you should update and get somthing that is reliable rather than breaking down ever 20,000 kilometres
From what I have read, generally from the postings of W.a members,
you could try somewhere around Rockingham,
or
often they make reference to a few guys that hang around a few of the car parks.![]()
What the red thumbs.. buy an unreliable piece of junk and fix it ever 5 mieuits or splurdge and get something with turn key reliability?
A car will make you money as it commutes you to work?
A reliable car /commuter is an asset. If you cant get to work you cant make money.
I think you should spend 100 bucks extra and upgrade to a datsun 180b
I am looking for van parts myself.
I am looking for the upper and lower tail gates for a Ford Falcon Panel van to replace the bread van doors it currently has.
The van is a '97 XH so I am guessing gates to suit would need to be XD or XE but just maybe XA/XB gates would fit.
Anybody done this conversion or know where I might locate the gates.
Hey there Amoka,
I live in melbourne and do a towing and free car removal service
We get these old tarago's quite often, some of them in brilliant condition,
And I know someone who has a yard with a few of them in it, they buy all taragos for export to dubbai, ( just the engines and transmissions,)
I can get the rest for a song!
So If you can give me a list of what you need, I can locate it all for you.
Frieght to wa would not be a great expense, Under $100 I would guess,
CHEERS
XD on will fit, nothing before, XA to XC are out,
If your not in a hurry, we get one in every month or so,
Iet me know,
we are located in melbourne though,
CHEERS
Cantswm I plan to take some photos of the part I am chasing tonight or tomorrow morning. If you could keep an eye that would be fanatastic. I can't seem to get your profile to work. Drop me an email so I can send the details directly you.
Cheers,
yep, you can't beat the 180b
but i recon you'd only need to spend and extra $50 to get a good 1
LMAO
