Which forecast / link / website should i be using to check if snorkeling conditions will be favourable for the following day. I've been out to Boyinaboat reef at hillarys boat harbour twice recently only to find theres been no visibility. This was on a sunny day before 9am.
I'm a bit confused what to look for on forecasts for the Perth area.

You need minimal swell for a couple of days at least to allow the particles to drop out and settle. Swell will also kick up sand around the rock structures that are most interesting when the water was already clear. Perth is quite difficult. Although drop 40 meters and it will be clear as!!!!
Here is a little trick but don't tell anyone!
Have some thin rope just a little longer than the depth you are diving, with a shackle or similar weight attached. Have it attached to a bouy at the other end with a dive flag so the boats can see you.. Lots of boats in Perth. When you dive down and see something you like drop the weight. This allows you to breathe up and dive down again following the rope and find the same spot amongst all the murk.. Which would have been impossible before.
It takes a little practice but you can get the hang of it.
All ways spend three times as much time on the surface as you do under water to prevent shallow blackout. So use a watch. If you don't understand this shallow water blackout you should do some research..

I've snorkelled boyinaboat, hundreds of times and know most of its secrets, unfortunately visibility is never crash hot. I recommend taking a torch with you, be game and stick your head through the weed and you will find some cool stuff, including a couple of ledges loaded with crayfish amongst other things. But remember it's a marine park so look but don't take.
Also try the little reef 50 metres so east of boyinaboat, its a bit more exposed but visibility can often be a little clearer, but as wotzy said you need a few days with zero swell for it to clear up much.
A little off topic but.... southwest of the groyne at dutch inn = crayfish. Lots of crayfish.

Just had a pearla of a day today snorkelling perfect visibility found a few new caves and a nice ground for good schools that run through tommorow looking even better probably all they way to sunday morning as long as the new front doesnt affect the swells.
