I ..................am signing this petition to acknowledge my desire that whaling, in any form, as well as the hunting of whales and dolphins, be stopped immediately. I will boycott Japan, and all Japanese products, until this practice ceases

Whales and dolphins are mammals and undergo excruciating pain.
How can the global community expect people like this to climate change when clearly they cant even resolve a simple inhumane practice like this.

as long as its sustainable then i don't see a problem with hunting whales and dolphins for food. you can't single out species for protection on the basis of them being "mammals" or "intelligent" or "majestic", thats just childish.

overfishing of tuna and some shark species is a far bigger problem than whaling in terms of ecological impact on the seas.

so unless you are a vegan, don't be jumping up and down about the fishing practices of other nations.

The government should just pay some top world scientist to release a report saying that whale meat will make your eye;s go swinty and your balls will shrink.

During the second world war, Japanese intell' intercepted what they initially thought to be encrypted radio communications eminating from the south china and antartic seas.

using their newly developed and highly sophisticated rice burning triangulation methods, they were able to deduce that the signal was a two way communication stream and that the origin of the return signal seemed to be coming from the, at the time, only recently discovered and still little known 23rd moon of saturn, coincidently and mysteriously named 'whaldolf'.

being the cluey alien hybrid buggers that they are, the japanese were able to quickly and inexpensively develop an electronic rice burning translation meduim machine.

when the machine was activated, the japanese discovered that the communications were between reconnaissance patrols on this planet and their headquaters on whaldolf.

the communications were further decifered and translated and to the japanese rice burning horror, it was discovered that the communications were coming from an allegiance between whales and dolphins, and they were preparing for an all conquering attack!

apparently whales and dolphins are aliens to this planet and they have been watching us for eons, studing the climate and observing the accelerating cycles of the sun, waiting for the tipping point of global warming to give them an oceanic advantage, where upon they will advance their attack from the seas and the skies, destroying and enslaving humanity.

they plan on wiping most of us out, farming us and canning us for export and preserved consumption; training us to perform tricks for their amusement and keeping us in tiny pens so as their tourists from whaldolf can be photographed with us.

the japanese first discovered this during the second world war. when they took their findings and their technological rice burning doo-dads to the newly created united nations, they were laughed out of the building...

... so ever since they have been fighting for the silent truth, the continuation of a soveriegn planet and its ignorant inhabitants.

and they carry on this fight, this war of the worlds, ridiculed and alone....

From what I've read, Japanese traditionally did not eat sea mammals except in a few seaside villages. The market for sea mammal meats developed after World War Two where whale meat was seen as a cheap form of protein.

Similarly the Japanese didn't eat much tuna until after the second world war. The Japanese saw American occupational forces eating beef and wanted to copy them. However there was no beef available. So they started eating more red meat fish, primarily tuna. Before this red meat fish was cheap and most Japanese preferred to eat white flesh fish.

Holden would probably fund a few thousand of them...

I get the feeling there is a little bit of something there, Dolphins cruise over unprompted and catch a couple of waves with you before continuing on with their business. On the other hand some people love dogs and others love to eat dogs, it's a crazy world.

maybe so, but i haven`t seen any farmers bailing their sheep, cows, pigs etc into the corner of the yard and whacking with a piece of 3x2 till their dead.

yes i know, but that's a bit more controlled and they don`t suffer for as long as that dolphin cull.that's absurd.

I, on the other hand, have seen exactly what you have described... except it was a hammer not a 3x2.

Whale tastes pretty **** anyway. I tried some for breakfast when i was in japan. It tastes (and looks) a lot like liver but with a taste about 5 times stronger that stays in your mouth all day.

This whole post was brought about because i watched a recent download called ..THE COVE.This perhaps may have been bias but if you get the chance to watch it, have a look.
After doing some research i found That a majority of marine life including whales were subject prone to a slow death due to boats and pollution rather than a minority culling.
There was another interesting article topic about navy sonar.im not going to get into to it.
I posted this on another forum and someone re posted\responded a pic of a wild bore (PIG) being culled and taken down by dogs and stated it was a similar thing.I agreed that ws different but he admittedly said it wasn't.

I think when you look at bias movies like which i did you become one sided weighed down by a equilibrium but having open discussion diplomatically with a community helps me to understand it.
This subject will end up on a Google search and i hope people don't jump to conclusions and read what people have to say.

Japanese people are a very intelligent hard working race i hold a lot of respect for them .Its was not my intention to generalize them.It was a topic that needed addressing from the Australian community.

I to have been impressed by the views expressed in this thread. It wasn't what i initially expected the replies to be to a thread so titled. Sustainability seems to be what most are agreeing on. I notice how almost every related news report focuss on Japan rather than whaling or fishing. (its never a whaling vessle, its always a Japanese whaling vessle which leads to how do we stop the japanese type stuff rather than how do we improve sustainability world wide type stuff.
