Jeep Grand Cherokee. A 4WD that shuts down and goes into limp-home mode if the vibration sensor goes off. Yep, that's right a 4WD that turns the ECU off if you drive on corrugations!!!! Sold in Oz.

Sounds similar to Touareg , Q7 & Cayenne Driveshaft support bearings that shizz themselves at 5 years / 80 k no mistake ... $2500 (at one joint fitted) for a new one the bastards genuine parts [}:)]

Reminds me of the Jeep park-neutral switch - $700. It is a 20cent switch, in a bit of moulded plastic. Even to make in very limited qty's or by hand it would be a $50 unit. In the numbers they made, probably $1 each.
Lada Niva
Cant believe my old man came home one day and said, "Hey kids we now have a 4WD". It was hard to contain my dissapointment when i first laid eyes on the Lada. Even more painfull was then i had to learn to drive in it.
Hey I had a Lada Niva and I really liked it. I travelled across Australia in it and back. Sure there were a few issues with it but they were pretty easy to fix. They are pretty good 4WDs.
The Lada Niva was never cool, but not many 4x4's could do this and get away with it.
There are many to choose from but the Holden Camira and Sunbird have to be among the front runners.
I once had a Morris 1100 - it would overheat if above 20 degrees and stop if there was the slightest whiff of rain, difficult to maintain, CV's kept going ..... so agree with the feeling on british cars.
The old man loved his P76 - reminded him of a Zephyr that he had.

Bought it new and it got recalled 6 times in the first 12 months. Toyota was still recalling it even after the arse end fell out of it and it rolled 6 times.

And I don't think Mitsubishi ever got over the bad rep caused by those crappy oil rings in the first generation Magnas. Didn't matter how good they made their later large cars (and they were good), Australians just assumed they were junk.
Ford XF Falcon... my very 1st brand new car in 1985, straight from the factory. I owned it for 9 months.
Of those 9 months it spent very nearly 6 months in various dealer workshops getting some large part repaired or replaced, or having panels panel beated because the front brakes completely locked up at 100kmh on the Hume Hwy near Wodonga. Note that the brakes stayed locked up even when they took the f***ers off of the car in the workshop.
Engine overhauled, transmission replaced, drive-shaft and diff re-balanced and replaced, electrics re-wired, both front discs replaced.
After they fixed the dents & brakes I went straight over to the Holden dealers and traded it on a new 86 VL Commodore. In the 4 years I had the VL I only had to replace the fan belt.
From then have only bought Holden's, biggest issue I've ever had with any is changing the water pump...
