So whats the go? A few years ago i built my pool and had all the under water gear installed for pool heating and now want to get it fitted. So its only about 35000 liters and i need to now what is the best system?
I obviously like the idea of cheap to run (solar) but i want it to also work and actually heat the pool. SO being a bit smaller maybe Gas might be the go?
Any advice on what to install and what would suit/work best would be great
Let the local pre school kids use it for swimming lessons. They dont leave the pool to pee so it will be warmed for free.

Just re-route your filter pipe thru a sh!tload of black pipe on the roof. Could be free if you scrounge
Buy that crusty old HZ v8 out of the Quokka Free ads. Fill the tank with fuel, disconnect or plumb into the hoses to the heater core. Fire her up and you'll soon be enjoying hot water and still be able to control the temp via the HZ dash.

There was an article in the last Weekend West home liftout claiming heat pumps are the most efficient to run compared to gas and electricity, but they are the most expensive to install.
It quoted a scenario where a 60,000 litre pool would cost to heat per year - $2958 on the heat pump, $10,887 for an electric heater and $8002 for gas.
No idea what the suckers cost to install though?

I thought that the idea of having a pool was to cool off. Why would you want to heat it up when summer is approaching? Sounds like your missus said it would be a good idea as she would be able to swim 'all year round!'

I fitted a solar system to our 50,000 litre pool a couple of years ago. Contacted Waterco in Balcatta. They put me onto their guy, John I think his name was.
He sold me the complete DIY set up for solar, including auto control but minus pump for around $1600'ish (he also installs)
The efficiency of the system, as I see it, relies on how much pipe, or heat exhanger you can get onto your roof. I was told that you need to have the same surface area of your pool as a minimum....not sure it's worth it if you don't have the roof space.
I have a pool surface area of 40m2 and have an exchanger area of approximately 55m2.....pool is a 'well toasty' 30 degrees from early November through to April/May.
The pump obviously runs more in the relatively cooler months but I've never really noticed a difference in our summer power bill after the install.
The only complaint I have is with the heat exchanger manifolds. They occasionally leak through the rubber grommets. I then have to haul my lazy backside up onto the roof and replace. Not a big deal though.
I also priced up gas heating at the same time......the expense of the unit put me off....think it was around 8 to 10K.

Get yourself a solar pool blanket works a treat. Keeps the leaves and crap out, stops evaporation and saves on chemicals. But remember in summer circulate the pool for about half an hour before getting in otherwise you might get a free skin peel coz the top 1/2 meter gets bloody hot...

I have a blanket but was wanting to lift the pool by a few degrees only. So from 26 or 27 to say 29 or 30.
I will look into solar i think but just thought maybe gas would give the ability to swim in winter if i wanted to
The big issue is i'm close to the coast and the wind is very cold so pool warmer would make it a bit more comfortable.

I have a pool approx 38000 lt , I have the simple black pvc pipes on my garage roof.
We live in Wollongong and the pool was 30 deg today.
Before the hard knobs get on and say ( I wouldnt swim in that 21 is hot enough ) phfttt to that.The cook wont go in under 30...
Hell I got it to 35deg once....that was a touch too hot even for me.
