Ive got a problem and need some comparison....
My power bill is around 600 bucks for the 90 days...
It's just me and the missus in a small 2 bedroom duplex and both work full time....
No aircon, no heating and energy saving lighting...
No computer, no irrigation in the yard and a switch that turns our entertainment system off at the wall so no stand by...
We have a dryer that doesn't get used much either..
I'm chasing comparisons on other peoples bills cos to me it seems excessive...
Cheers...
I'm near Strathpine and it's $220 for the 3months.
We have a/c running every night in bedroom, computer on 24/7. Always use the dryer and a heavy user in general.
In Springwood our bill was around $350. Your bill is huge, something is not right.
With a bill that steep, my guess is your neigbour might have lots of grow-lights set up and running around the clock- tapped into your power via the ceiling space.![]()
Try unplugging everything you have in the house- and see if your meter is still turning.
Something is very wrong.

how did you train your elephants to syncronise thier jumping? ![]()
i'm on a bush block. we pay around $700-750 a quarter, but that runs a pump for water & a sewage treatment system
sounds like someone is ripping your power
What is the 'supply charge' and what is the 'usage charge'?
Often a forgotten high electricity user is the 'old' inefficient beer fridge.
We are in the west..but for 2 people
ran the aircon for 60 days
I use the dryer all the time
have a pond pump running 24/7
pc's running 24/7
energy saving lights running 24/7
...$485 for 60 days
I think you have a problem Benny boy..![]()
We are in the west..but for 4 people
ran the aircon for 60 days
I use the dryer all the time
pc's running 24/7
energy saving lights running 24/7
...$485 for 60 days
Same here, but $780 for the quarter.
We're probably similar to you, but have a solar/gas hotwater system. We use about 5kw hrs/day
Sounds like something is very wrong with your bill.
Electric hot water system?
That much power use would have the meter spinning like crazy.
As someone else stated, systematically shut things of to see where the bleeding is coming from
Make sure they actually read the meter they often just do estimates ... Over time each estimate creeps up.
If you have recently moved in you may find the Previous tenant was a heavy user.
what he said... and don't let em hood wink you into paying their charge to actually read the meter...
how is that, you have to pay extra for them to honestly come and check for what they charge you for...
this should be in the heavy water bit, it sounds like a corporate conspiracy condoned by the government
our bill we just got was just over $500 for the Quater-91 days.Mind you we have 5 kids, no A/c or anything too fancy.
I read meters for a living, and it has been quite a common thing in the last month or so having people getting a check read done-usually because of an excessive bill. Our last bill was up by about $100 or so, despite our average daily usage going down by over 2kw/day![]()
Try what sn said regarding unplugging things and seeing if the meter is still moving![]()
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Australian power rip off.
How much does each KW/h cost? What is the cost of the service fee? How many KW/h have you consumed? Does the cost of consumption go up as the consumption goes up? Possibly you are suddenly paying something like 45 cents a KW/h.
No point comparing to people in different states. In NSW it's a rip off however in SA its robbery. The most expensive electricity in the world.
Cheers legends... My fridge is new and I bought it over another model because it was more energy efficient... Brand new hot water system too that I had put on off peak an my bill has still gone up 50 bucks!!! Man it's doing my head in...
Yeah we bought a new fridge too. An Electrolux ETM4200SC rate at 318 KW/h a year. Hopefully it will make a difference.
do you have a chest freezer? If it's playing up (not cycling) can chew.
get an energy audit done or one of those energy meters. find out what is using what
$350 for the summer three months. About $250 was power the other $100 was supply charges and GST. Two people, some air con, fairly frugal with lighting, computers, TV, recorder and sound system on standby most of the time. Gas cooking and solar hot water. No clothes dryer.
More importantly, the usage was 827kw,
