Hi
This may seem a silly question but I put an ad up to sell a car today and I keep getting random sms's from people who want to know if the car is still for sale and what the final price is - they want me to email them the final price offer. The numbers that are coming in on my phone are international and you can not respond to them - they fail. The email addresses are hotmail ones.
Should I be concerned about anything or am I being paranoid for no reason???
Thanks!
Classic - yes it is something to worry about!!
Just got this classic response from the first one that I emailed back.
Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition,am
buying it for my vacation, because i'll be coming soon from our rig as
am a petroleum engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come
forth inspection due to the nature of my work,i would have love to
call in person but our satellite server has been down which restrict
our calls.i will be paying you through PayPal,pls get back to me with
your PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and contact the
courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in my place.I
would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too
since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email
to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP,And if you don't have
a paypal account, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au
and get it set up or you send me your bsb and account number so i can
pay you from my paypal merchant account
I knew something was fishy!!!!!
nearly all are scams, (I say nearly for legal implications)
put a phone number on the ad, ask them to call with questions or for inspections
This seems to work well for us
Reply to all of them, final price = 10x advertised price. See which ones think you're really really dumb.
I have this same scammers twice already !!
first asking for " final price "
then trying to arrange some payment by Paypal
then asking for Western Union money transfer to pay for shipping !
scammer claims to be on the ship and need to send goods to his daugher in Malaysia or Indonesia ?
I did even wrote a letter to Gumtree with warning about scammers.
One I can't understand. How actually scamer make money of this procedure ?
Selling mine on there as well, much rather use seabreeze tbh.
Only reply to phone calls is the best way.
