Hi brains trust,

Having lived in WA for 16 years, I have always wondered why the tides seem so ad hoc. Growing up surfing in QLD, we had roughly 4 tides a day, 6 1/4 hours apart.

Can anyone tell me why it's so random in Perth? Sometimes only one tide per day......WTF

Most parts of the world have a semi diurnal tide.which is 1high every 12ish hours.

Perth however has a diurnal tide, which is one high/day. Not sure why, but it is probably some complicated physics thing. Or a conspiracy...

Maybe so you can't tell if a tsunami is coming. Oops sorry forget on BOM the photo/picture/diagram shows we aren't in the tsunami watch area so we couldn't possibly get a tsunami.

I'm pretty sure Perth is relatively safe from earthquake tsunamis due to its location and the shape of the ocean floor.

This little pdf is a bit of a summary of a preso I went to, but can't seem to find the main powerpoint.

I read that some campers in Sharks bay almost lost their lives. Was thinking the other day that Mandurah would get taken out by a tidal surge. When next is that thing that happens with the moon and high tides?

How about that!

There two highs trying to get through on saturday though. Maybe a resonant slosh in the Indian Ocean filters or blurs them out.
